Extreme Dinos and Hands-On Harley Davidson Fun at Discovery Cube OC
We are a Discovery Cube OC Ambassador
The Discovery Cube Orange County is always one of my families favorite places to visit. There is always something new to explore, and right now they have two new exhibits running.
The first is Extreme Dinosaurs running from May 28 – September 5. The other exciting exhibit is Hands-On Harley-Davidson, it runs May 28 – September 11.
Both of these new exhibits gave us hours of enjoyment. We first went to the Extreme Dinosaurs exhibit because I am a huge Dino fan and that love has rubbed off onto my three boys. We were all so excited to see the animatronic dinosaurs. When we walked in we were greeted by real and replica fossils. On plaques, they had details about each specimen, and some were hands on that let you push button to light up answers to questions.
Once further inside the visit, you will enter the Holy Grail of animatronic dinosaurs. Giant lifelike Dinosaurs that move and make sounds are all around you. My kids and I were in love. The Tyrannosaurus Rex was the highlight for my family. They also included some new and bizarre finds from the current “Golden Age” of paleontology.
I love how they incorporated hands-on learning in this exhibit. Kids can touch buttons to make the dinosaurs move. They also have touchscreen game that helps identify different dinosaurs and matches them up.
One of my three-year-olds favorites hands on activity was digging for dinosaur bones like a paleontologist. They have paintbrushes, and you use them to brush these sand like rubber pellets off to discover bones. My kids had a lot of fun with this and so did the other children around us. It was such a hit with my three-year-old that he made us go back before we went home and a week later he is still talking about it.
The details in this exhibit are really eye catching. When you are walking around, it really makes you feel like you in the Mesozoic Era. The 17 dinosaurs are sure to bring a smile to your face. I know it did mine. My kids were all so happy while inside in exhibit. It was hard to get them to leave, but I reminded them about the Hands-On Harley-Davidson exhibit, and they were eager to see that too.
At the entrance of the Hands-On-Harley exhibit, they have a few tracks for kids to roll golf balls down. My kids were having so much fun with these that it took a little persuading to get them to go inside. When they finally got inside, they took their golf balls and rolled them down more ramps, and they were able to pump up this metal orb contraption that shot the balls out inside and made them spin round and round. They loved this.
They also really loved a giant ramp that let you race your golf balls down. They did this over and over until I pulled them into a Harley Davidson store. In the store, kids can ride a Harley and customize it. The kids get to dress up, and it was really fun for them. You know it is really fun when there is a line of little kids eager to ride the Harley with their parents waiting to take pictures. My kids did not mind the wait. While they waited, they pretended to work in the Harley store checking out the parts to customize the motorcycle. It has been particularly fun for my three-year-old. He loves the hands-on stuff a lot.
We had a great time exploring these new exhibits and thought you would too. Tickets can be purchased online or at the ticket booth at the entrance of the building.
Have a roaring good time!
