Fall Stamped Clay Charm Necklace

My family and I are big on crafting. We spend many hours together making stuff. It is something we love to do together as a family. Every holiday I like to do a quick themed craft with my kids. Since fall has come, I decided to make some stamped necklaces for Halloween. These are very simple to make and it is something any child can do. My 7 year old was my helper and we made these pretty quick.
These do not have to be perfect, just spending time with your kids letting them be creative is a wonderful gift.

Here is what you will need:

  • Sculpted clay
  • Stamps
  • String, yarn, chain or anything you would like to hang your clay charm on
  • Jump rings and clasps (if you want to hang on a chain)
  • Scissors
  • Pliers (if using jump rings)
  • Pan or baking sheet (to bake clay on)
  • Oven (I use my toaster oven)
  • Toothpick

1. Open the clay you are wanting to use and kneed and work the clay (it is sometimes a bit brittle in the package).
2. Roll clay into balls in your desired size.
3. Gently smash down the clay to flatten it out. Be careful to not make it too thin or it may crack after it is baked.

4. Place a stamp on your clay to make an imprint by pushing down on the stamp. If you want you can add some details like leaves to your piece with another color clay, but this is optional.
5. Use a toothpick to make a hole to hang the clay charm on the string or chain.
6. Place your clay on a baking sheet or pan.

7. Bake the clay at 275° the time will vary depending on thickness. It will tell you on your package how long that will be.
8. Once your clay has baked, take it out of the oven and let it dry (This step should be done by an adult).
9. Cut a desired length of string or chain.

10. For a necklace made of string, pull the string through the hole in the charm. Make sure to have the charm centered and then tie 2 knots. This will make your charm lay flat. You can now tie your necklace on.
11. If you are using a chain and jump rings, use your pliers to open the jump ring and add it to the hole of your charm clamping it on and then string your chain through it.
12. Using the jump rings place them on the ends of the chain. Add the clasp of your choice on one side.

Your necklace is finished, you can now wear it or give it to a friend.
