Family Film Review: The BFG
We attended a screening as a guest of Disney
The BFG is one of the best summer movies of the year. It is about family, friendship, and kindness – all the messages that kids of this generation need to be exposed too. When I first saw the film earlier this year, I fell in love with it and have had the honor of seeing it multiple times along with interviewing the director, Steven Spielberg, and many of the actors including Mark Rylance and Penelope Wilton. I guarantee that this movie will touch you in the way that E.T. did and will be a classic that will be cherished forever. Here are our family reactions to the film:
Mom Opinion
I loved the movie. As an adoptive mother, this film touched my heart in a way that it won’t reach every mother. While the film is not exactly about adoption, it does talk about orphans, and how they perceive life which my adoptive children picked up on immediately after seeing the movie and couldn’t stop talking about in the car ride home. While some children may not have the blessing of parents, there is someone out there in the world wanting to love them, and that was the case with The BFG and Sophie. The movie is one of Spielberg’s best films yet, and Ruby Barnhill (Sophie), is going to take the world by storm with her incredible talent as an actress. There is so much anger, negativity, and violence in the world in which we currently live, so you should expose your children to a whole new world of magic, love, and friendship when watching The BFG.
Dad Opinion
I thought it was a fun movie! It is a great lesson for all to no judge a book by its cover. It is a great family movie or even a great movie to go out on a date night.
Teenage Son Opinion (14 years old)
The BFG is a ‘scrumdiddlyumptious’ film! I loved how close the movie was to the book! Most movies take out a lot of parts from a book, but this time, maybe only 1 or 2 parts was missing! On a scale from 1-10, I would rate this movie a ten bazillion! This movie is great for kids, family and friends of all ages! Go and see the BFG in theaters almost anywhere today!!
Tween Daughter Opinion (12 years old)
I thought the BFG was a fantastic film! I have read the book over and over, so when the movie can out I was super excited. It was not just the movie that was fantastic; it was also the cast. The cast included some amazing actors/actresses. I recommend this movie for anybody!
