San Diego Staycation at the Hilton Mission Valley San Diego
We stayed as a guest of the property
San Diego is the premier staycation destination for families living in Orange County. With such a large variety of hotels in the San Diego area, it can be overwhelming when trying to find a hotel that best meets the needs of a growing young family. Recently, when planning a quick weekend getaway from the stresses of everyday life, we made reservations to stay at the newly renovated Hilton Mission Valley San Diego.

Air and Space Museum at Balboa Park
The hotel is conveniently located near hotel circle within a short distance from Sea World, Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo. We started the weekend exploring the local museums at Balboa Park before checking into the hotel. Upon arrival, we were greeted by some of the friendliest employees we have ever come across while traveling. They helped us with our bags, checked us into our room and within minutes the kids were suited up in their swimsuits and ready to hit the pool.
The 350-room hotel just underwent a multi-million dollar renovation making it an incredibly beautiful hotel. The lobby is bright, clean and has unique artwork that immediately captured the attention of our children. The decor gave our kids a calming sensation that was much needed after a long day of travel and exploration around the city.
The kids favorite part of the resort was, of course..the pool. There is a large outdoor pool with plenty of seating, towels, water and a jacuzzi. My husband and I sat on the edge of the pool hand in hand with our toes in the water watching our kids giggle and splash with delight in the crystalline water.
Once the kids were done swimming it was time to retreat to our room. The rooms are spacious and have all the accommodations that families will need when traveling. We were able to have plenty of room for our family of five to feel at home with a suite and adjoining bedroom. My husband and I were able to have privacy in the master bedroom, and the kids were able to share the adjoining room. In-between the two rooms was a living room where we watched a movie together as a family before bed and a small kitchenette where our children were able to have a late night snack. The rooms feature modern decor with cool and calming colors. With sustainability in mind, the rooms had a large oversized shower vs. bathtubs to help encourage families to be water conscious.
After our family had got settled into our room, we came together for dinner at the on site fusion Mexican restaurant Polanco Kitchen & Bar. The restaurant offered Mexican food with a flare that would satisfy the palate of even the most discerning travelers. The innovative restaurant not only had incredible cuisine but also set-up to be family-friendly with flat screen televisions at the booths and semi-private tables for larger groups.
Once dinner was over, we were able to create unforgettable memories together watching a family movie in the living room of our hotel room before singing the kids their good-night songs and watching them drift off to sleep.
When the sun arose the next morning, the kids joined me in the gym for an early morning work-out. The kids did their morning stretches and yoga while I was able to exercise on the high tech equipment overlooking panoramic views of the city. It was the perfect way to end our staycation at this plush family hotel before driving up the coast back to Orange County.
