Festival of Arts of Laguna Beach Expands NEW foaVIRTUAL

The celebrated Festival of Arts of Laguna Beach is proud to continue to fulfill its mission and support local artists with the recent expansion of the non-profit’s latest digital initiative.

Festival of Arts foaVIRTUAL

The new 3D immersive online gallery, foaVIRTUAL, now allows guests the unique opportunity to listen to audio from participating artists as they explore and purchase artwork from over 120 Festival of Arts exhibitors.

As virtual guests navigate around the gallery, or take a guided art tour, select artists now offer voice recordings that share details on their backgrounds, careers in art, and even stories behind the artwork on display.

Artists like watercolor painter Kirsten Whalen offer audio that expands on her current series on display, and photographer Jeff Rovner reveals hidden details in his display, which is dedicated to artificial intelligence. Rovner’s audio describes that each photograph of a vintage toy represents an application of artificial intelligence.

He encourages viewers to look at the Lucite panel protecting each photograph as it is laser-etched with an excerpt of machine learning computer code for that application. Audio sound bites like Whalen’s and Rovner’s are among the many that foaVIRTUAL now offers. This new feature allows art lovers the chance to uncover another layer on the inspiration and particulars behind the artist and their work.

In May, the 2020 Festival of Arts Fine Art Show was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the unlikelihood of mass gatherings this summer. Determined, the Festival decided to look towards digital and created its first virtual exhibit, which debuted in late July. The foaVIRTUAL interactive, cyber-exhibition features nine galleries with up to 17 different artists in each gallery. All the artwork is available for purchase from the artist, and just like the Festival’s summer fine art show, 100% of each sale goes directly to the exhibitor.

Organized by Festival of Arts Exhibits Director Christine Georgantas and produced by Marketing/PR Director Sharbie Higuchi and Marketing/PR Coordinator Meghan Perez, foaVIRTUAL is available free of cost to the public.
