Festival of the Lion King at the Walt Disney World Resort

We visited as a guest of Disney

In celebration of the classic Disney film The Lion King coming out of the Disney vault, I went to the Walt Disney World Resort to be immersed into the magical world in which Timon, Simba, and Pumbaa live. During my trip, most of my time was spent at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and one of my favorite things that I did while exploring the theme park was watching the interactive production of Festival of the Lion King.

During the performance, the film beautifully came to life. There was music, dancing, and all of our favorite Lion King characters. One of my favorite parts of the performance was when a dancer came out onto the stage and spun a wheel of real fire. He did many tricks with the fire and even breathed a little bit of fire. It was incredible.

Another great part of the performance was the flying butterflies. The actors flew above the audience while doing spins and twirls. I noticed that Simba had to blink a couple of times because he couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

The day that I came to see the Festival of the Lion was a magical day for everyone in the audience. There was a special guest in the audience that nobody knew was there until he was brought onto the stage. The master of ceremonies came into the audience and brought the special guest onto the stage and then introduced to everyone that it was Ernie Sabella the voice of Pumbaa! When she announced that he was there, a quiet gasp came across the audience, and everyone got out their cameras to capture the moment. Then Ernie Sabella surprised everyone by talking with his iconic Pumbaa voice – it was a surreal moment.

The show continued to captivate guests with beautiful music and dancing. At the end of the show, children were invited onto the stage to use musical instruments and do a small parade around the stage.

Following the performance guests were eagerly waiting outside of the doors to get a selfie with Ernie Sabella. I heard one dad say to him, “you are my favorite Disney character, and this is the best day of my life.”

When your family comes to the Walt Disney World, make plans to see the Festival of the Lion King. It is guaranteed to be one of your favorite parts of the trip and will bring the story of the Lion King to life for your children.
