Free Popcorn at the OC Market Place

Jeff Abbit as Kaptain Kernel

The Orange County Market Place, the weekend swap meet at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa, will celebrate National Popcorn Day the weekend of January 17 and 18 by offering free popcorn both days from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

It is undetermined how the origin of National Popcorn Day came about, but many claim it has something to do with Super Bowl Sunday, one of the biggest snacking days of the year.

Other popcorn festivities each day include a Popcorn Prize Wheel from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for attendees to win free packaged popcorn from Gaslamp Popcorn and two Market Place vendors, Ragin’ Cajun Kettle Korn and California Spice Kettle Korn who will also offer specials at their booths, and other popcorn treats.

Also, Captain Popcorn, a strolling pirate, will be giving out free bags of Gaslamp Popcorn throughout the Market Place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Along with free popcorn, Kaptain Kernel, “the King of Korn“, will perform “butter than average” magic and comedy from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days including showing off his popcorn spill gags, juggling popcorn balls and turning kernels into popcorn from his magic bag.

Entering its 46th year, the Orange County Market Place is held every Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. except Easter Sunday and during the annual Orange County Fair. It features hundreds of vendors selling a variety of products and services, a Treasure Island area for used items including antiques and vintage goods, a luxury used car lot, manufactured homes, hair salons, food concessions and more.

Admission is $2 for ages 13 years and over, and free for children 12 and under and military with identification. Additional information is available at www.ocmarketplace.com or by calling 949-723-6660.
