Halfway to Hana: Home of ‘The Original’ Banana Bread

We visited as a guest of the resort

After swimming in Haipua’ena Falls and Ching’s Pond, our kids had worked up an appetite, and we wished we had taken the advice of the staff at the Ka’anapali Beach Hotel and purchased a picnic lunch to take with us on our excursion. Thankfully, we arrived upon the Halfway to Hana food stand that had not only food to fuel our kids, but also the best banana bread our taste buds had ever experienced.

When we arrived at the food stand, the parking lot was full. We found a spot along the side of the road and then walked up to see what they had to offer. After swimming, and cliff diving, our kids were willing to eat anything. I ordered them all a hot dog and a large bottle of water along with a couple of loaves of banana bread.

Normally, I don’t feed my kids super processed foods like hot dogs, but when you are in the middle of a jungle, and that is the only food around, you eat it. I think it was the first time that my kids ever had a hot dog, and they thought it was the best thing they have ever eaten.

We took a few minutes to enjoy our lunch at one of the picnic tables next to the food stand before continuing to explore the road to Hana. We saved the banana bread to enjoy later on during our exploring and made sure to stock up on extra water while at this stop.

If your family decides to explore the road to Hana, I recommend ordering a picnic lunch to take with you. If you are staying at the Ka’anapali Beach Hotel, they have a quick service counter where your family can order lunch and snacks to take with you on your explorations – don’t do what we did and leave with water and a bag of chips.

When we reached our final destination along the road to Hana, we stopped and enjoyed the banana bread together as a family. (If you have a child with a nut allergy, their bread does contain nuts). It was some of the best banana bread we have ever had!

You’ll not want to miss enjoying banana bread from the place where it was created when visiting Maui. The Halfway to Hana roadside stand is located at shortly past mile marker 17.
