Help the Homeless Children in Orange County

It’s Your Opportunity to Get Involved: Help At-Risk Youth in Orange County to Break the Cycle of Homelessness, Once and for All.

When the Illumination Foundation was founded in late 2007, our vision to break the cycle of homelessness in Orange County was born. We are dedicated to leveraging innovative, integrated care and unique partnerships to provide local homeless families with health and housing stability. We’ve helped hundreds of Orange County families to get off the streets and in to stable jobs and homes, and for that, we are eternally grateful to the community for its support of our mission.

We are especially focused on giving youth the tools they need to change their lives and accomplish their dreams. Known as the “neighborhood gem,” our Children’s Resource Center is located in the Tina Pacific area of Stanton, Calif., where there is the highest population of at-risk youth in Orange County.

There, children are offered tutoring and mentorship, mental health services, gang intervention, extracurricular classes, nutritious meals, and a chance at a bright, more promising future. These are children who, in most cases, would have nowhere else to go during the day and have no other means for food or safe shelter. By offering proactive crisis intervention, Orange County’s most at-risk youth have a chance at creating generational change and truly breaking the cycle of homelessness.

We see more than 40 to 50 children on our ever-present waiting list, denied the opportunity to escape the streets or an unstable home life due to lack of space and resources. In 2014, we are asking for support to raise $30,000 to complete the expansion of the Children’s Resource Center and the services it provides at-risk youth in our community.

The Alcon Foundation, a generous supporter and provider of critical vision care for families served by the Illumination Foundation, has pledged to match up to $15,000 for the expansion of the Children’s Resource Center, meaning every donation by our community makes double the impact.

As a great way to get the families we serve alongside our sponsors, volunteers and the Orange County community, we host the Carnival for Kids to help raise funds for the Children’s Resource Center.

Carnival for Kids is fun event for the whole family, offering free admissions, rides, games, food, live music and complimentary parking. This year, the Carnival for Kids will take place on Sunday, August 17, from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. at La Palma Park in Anaheim. Sponsorship and ticket information is available online.

Despite the county’s affluent reputation, 5.5 percent of children in Orange County are unstably housed – more than anywhere else in the state of California. Help a child to simply have a chance at a brighter future with the expansion of the Illumination

Foundation Children’s Resource Center. For more information about becoming a corporate or individual sponsor for Carnival for Kids, please contact Sheryl Overman at [email protected] to learn more.

  1. Great to hear there are other organizations out there who are trying to help these homeless kids. If we all work together maybe we can make a difference in their lives and stop the ever increasing homeless population in Orange County. http://standupforkids.org
