Would you wash your clothes in petroleum? Clean dishes with carcinogens? Diaper your child with toxins? No! you say? Well, you may unknowingly be exposing yourself and your children to these chemicals using everyday products in your home. Jessica Alba wants to change that for you.

Last Thursday I was invited to attend The Honest Company’s 2nd Anniversary Celebration with a friend. Initially, I didn’t know anything about the company. A quick search through the internet told me that The Honest Co. (co-founded by Jessica Alba and Christopher Gavigan) creates all natural products for children. Okay, so I’ve heard this before. I went chemical-free 8 years ago when my son started showing signs of having ADHD. I know a little something about supposed natural products, mislabeled, deceptive labeling and non-labeling on our foods and household products. I have searched high and low to find the right brands for our family and I have found many, very good products…for a price. I quickly learned that going natural was very expensive! Anyway, I was invited to go to a party and check out a new line of products with an opportunity to meet Jessica Alba. Of course I went!!!

When my friend Janell and I arrived, we were handed large 100 % cotton, canvas totes and escorted into a room chock full of baby and household products. The pretty blonde that greeted us, explained that they were for us. She held her hand out toward the plethora of product booty and made us feel like royalty. Okay, this was a great start, a bag full of all natural, organic household items. I was all over this action. With over 75 products to choose from, my only problem was that I couldn’t fit everything I wanted into my bag. The company carries everything for a “clean” house from baby products to bath & body products to cleaning and even nutritional supplements. Once satiated with product, we hit the photo booth, having fun goofing around with the props.

It wasn’t long before Jessica Alba showed up and did an interview with E!News. Inspired by Christopher Gavigan’s book, Healthy Child, Healthy World when she was 7 ½ months pregnant, she came up with the idea for The Honest Company. Her idea was to create all natural products that worked and to use “honest” labeling. Did you know that household product manufacturers are not required to put every chemical they use on their labels? So, guess what, they don’t. I love that this company will list every ingredient on their labels and make themselves available to answer all questions concerning their product whether the law requires them to or not. What a breath of fresh air (literally)!!!!! Jessica says “I created The Honest Company to help moms and to give all children a better, safer start”. After the interview, she was nice enough to let me “rub elbows with her” while Janell snapped a quick photo with my phone.

We ended the evening with a beautiful buffet of all natural food and gluten free desserts. Whole foods really can be delicious!

I couldn’t wait to get home and try out my bag full of goodies. The next day I showered with lavender soap and brushed my teeth with Honest toothpaste. The body lotion felt luxurious without being oily. The lip balm was smooth and soft. My kids loved the strawberry toothpaste (and yes, I did check the label for artificial flavor and found none!) But my new favorite product (and Janell agrees) is the Suds Up. Put a little Honest dish soap and water in the ceramic container, push up and down on the spring platform with the bamboo brush and let the kids do the dishes. I love this thing! It is clean and sits neatly by my sink. Any time I have a stray glass or dish to wash, I just suds up the brush and wah-la, dish be clean. It makes me really happy that it won’t rust sitting by the sink!! Now, if we’re being honest here, after all that IS the name of the company, I have to tell you my boys did not like the taste of the chewable multivitamin; however, my friend Janell’s teenager thought they were a lot better than swallowing pills. Other than that, I honestly love the products and everything this company stands for. I feel like I can actually TRUST them. Now that’s something new.

Now, for the real question, is it affordable? I apprehensively went to the website. The first thing I saw was Create an Essentials Bundle for $35.95. You pick 5 essential products you use on a regular basis and the company will ship them to your doorstep every month. Huh? ANY 5? Yes, any 5 products on the essentials list: laundry detergent, dishwasher soap, whatever you want! Only $35.95. They also offer a month’s supply of chemical free diapers and wipes for $79.95 with free shipping on all orders over $50.00. (love them!) I know they said it was affordable but affordable can be a subjective term. I am so excited that it really IS affordable. I have already created my bundle and put in my first month’s order.
In summary, all I have to say is; Fun party! Great product! Enough Said!
