Honey Barbecue Sauce Recipe
Summer is the best time to fire up the grill. Grilled food is one of the fastest ways to get a healthy meal on the table for your family, even when you might be exhausted from a long day at the beach. Store bought barbecue sauce is something that I have never been able to use due to my sons food allergies. The store bought versions are filled with high fructose corn syrup, soy lecithin and tons of sugar. I altered a chipotle barbecue sauce recipe from Cooking Light Magazine to make this yummy kid-friendly honey barbecue sauce recipe.
Ingredients:
2 Teaspoons of olive oil
1/2 of a shallot (minced)
1/2 cup of ketchup
2 Tbl. honey
1/2 tea. garlic powder
1/2 tea. dry mustard
(dash of salt and pepper)
Directions:
1. First cook the shallots in the hot olive oil for about 3-4 minutes.
2. Then stir in the remaining ingredients.
3. Reduce heat to low, and cook for about 3-5 minutes (or until the sauce has thickened)
*tip* don’t cook the sauce for too long or it will get clumpy
4. Coat chicken legs or breasts with the barbecue sauce
5. Grill and enjoy!
