How to Make Ice Cream in a Ziploc Bag
The kids have been asking me to make homemade ice cream with them all week. Instead of purchasing a fancy ice cream maker, we decided to have a fun science project of making our own homemade ice cream in a ziploc bag. The activity was super easy, super fun and all the neighborhood kids joined in on the fun.
The best part about making homemade ice cream in a bag? Is that it keeps the kids busy for hours! The first step is to mix the milk, sugar and vanilla into a quart sized Ziploc bag.
Then put the Ziploc bag into a second quart size bag. (This will help with leaking).
Then fill a gallon sized Ziploc bag with ice and salt before putting the quart size bag into the bag filled with ice. Finally have your children shake the bag until the milk mixture has frozen. This will take about 5-10 minutes for it to freeze. I recommend having the children do this outside in case the Ziploc bag bursts.
Have fun! When my kids were all done making their homemade ice cream in a ziploc bag, we had a huge ice cream sundae bar setup inside the house for them to enjoy.
We hope that you enjoy making your own homemade ice cream!

@Mary and Kim, From the Pinterest link: “In a small Ziplock bag, put: 1/2 C. half and half (milk works too) 1 Tbps. sugar 1 tsp. vanilla Insert that bag into a larger, one gallon Ziplock filled with ice and salt. Shake the bag for five minutes. Kids love that part! Then, remove the smaller bag which should have turned into ice cream.”
Thank you Sam! We didn’t realize that the recipe had been deleted from the post

Mine didn’t work I’m thinking it’s because I used iodine salt but is that possible??
Mine didn’t work either. Not sure what I did wrong.
