Importance of Keeping Your Kids Hydrated

Although the summer months have passed, keeping kids hydrated is still a priority. Kids are constantly active and dehydration can be life-threatening to young children, regardless of the season. Every year more than 200,000 children in the US are admitted to hospitals for dehydration.

How do you know if your kids are dehydrated? Signs of dehydration include:

  • Dry mouth, dry skin and dry eyes (no tears)
  • Thirst
  • Tiredness, sluggishness
  • Fewer wet diapers; decreased urine output
  • light-headedness, headache
  • Fever
  • Confusion

I have witnessed my kids begin to show signs of dehydration, and it has been some of the scariest moments of my life. Recently, my daughter started vomiting after a volleyball game due to dehydration. Getting her to keep water down was a challenge because she was already at a critical point of dehydration. We were only able to slowly rehydrate her without have to go to the hospital with the use of DripDrop.
