Indulgent Dinner with Daou and Black Angus

We dined at Black Angus as a guest of the venue

What a great evening we had when Black Angus and Daou Winery invited us to dine with them. Yes, these two have decided to partner and bring us a new menu complimented by the well known and delicious wines of Daou.

Black Angus Steakhouse-DAOU Vineyards-Winery

Black Angus recently remodeled the Lakewood, Ca location; it has a bright, fresh, contemporary design; a brand new take on Black Angus for all of us yet still full of that familiar comfort. Introducing a new menu went hand in hand, and it has the “wow” factor!

Crab cake at Black Angus

We were dining on Crab Cakes with Lemon Aioli on Baby Greens, as Chef David Bolosan teased us with the most delicious flavors. We were excited to discover what other dishes were going to be shared.

One of our favorite compliments to the menu is the pairing of Daou wines, and you’ll find them to be the featured wine available at Black Angus now. Daou Proprietor Georges Daou joined us this evening, sharing fabulous gems of Daou history. Located in Paso Robles, he and his brother one day decided to buy this incredible piece of earth; as he quoted, “just two crazy guys planting Cabernet in a Rhone environment.” Well, their passion for the grapes, the land, family, and wine led them to create something bigger than they ever imagined and they share it with all of us.

Georges is down to earth, with a playful smile and knows how to share great stories of their early years. He and his brother, Daniel have created some beautiful award-winning wines at 90+ points. While they have a love of producing wine, they also focus on the essential things in life; not money but the things that matter; love, faith, happiness, and family. When your focus is on target, those dreams and doors continue to open.

Pork Chop at Black Angus

As we continued dining, a Rack of Lamb with a Cabernet Blueberry Reduction was placed before us, exquisite in flavor and presentation! A glass of 2017 Daou Cabernet Sauvignon was a lovely compliment.

Beef Wellington sashayed out next; owning the night. It was perfectly cooked, decadent and plated beautifully with a Black Truffle Cabernet demi glace. Lobster Mashed Potatoes and Grilled Asparagus on the side created a very elegant entree.

Dessert at Black Angus

Now, this writer loves Reserve wines; while watching the rich, red pour of the 2016 Daou Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon before us, we knew it was going to be memorable. We begin swirling, the legs of the wine appear, breathing in intensely the aromas, we take a sip. Yes, this is a beautiful moment!

We think most of us enjoy comfort, the familiar while exploring, excellent food, great wine and time shared. What Black Angus and Daou have created is just that, and we’re looking forward to discovering more with the merge of these two greats. Cheers to you both!
