The film “Walking with Dinosaurs” comes out in theaters today just in time for the holiday season. The actor, John Leguizamo, whom we all know and love as Sid from “Ice Age,” brings the film, “Walking with Dinosaurs” to life with his role as a feisty prehistoric bird, Alex. We talked with Leguizamo on his role in making the highly anticipated family film.

One of the biggest questions we had for Leguizamo when making a film about dinosaurs was the type of research that went into the film. “I didn’t have to do anything because this is such a well-researched project. Everything was triple fact checked, quadruple,” said Leguizamo. The actor did not have to do a lot of research for the film, and was able to focus on the voice that he needed to bring the character to life in the film.

“We had a lot of difficulty finding the voice of Alex.” John Leguizamo

All of us know Leguizamo as Sid in the film “Ice Age,” and we were curious to see how challenging it was for him to switch roles to play this new character in “Walking with Dinosaurs.” Leguizamo told us, “We tried a lot of different sounds, pitches and timbre. I was too deep at first, and now we found the right level.” He had to re-record his role a lot during the making of the film to find the right level pitch in his voice. “It was fun because it was different from Sid and different from Titan A.E. and other things I have done,” said Leguizamo.

“The kids are going to learn something. There’s a lot of information in the movie that’s great which kids love, especially when you’re talking about dinosaurs.” John Leguizamo.

Are you curious if this is going to be an education film, or an entertaining film? We asked Leguizamo what parents can expect when bringing their children to see the film. “There are moments that give information, which are built into the story. You get some comedy. You get some tragedy. You get lots of dinosaur behavior, and then you have information,” said Leguizamo. Overall, children will get to experience an entertaining movie that is packed full of educational information making the film an enriching experience for children.

  1. What a neat opportunity to learn a bit about how actors do the voices for animated films. My boys want to see this as the scenery is filmed in Alaska and we’ve probably seen some of the ‘sites’.

  2. This looks like a pretty neat movie! And I loved Sid in Ice Age 🙂

  3. With the cold weather and no school for a few weeks, I may take my 3 year old to see this. He’s only sat through a movie in a theater where they served food, so we’ll see how it goes.

  4. I haven’t heard a lot about this movie, but the CG looks incredible.
