Kicking off the Holidays at Knott’s Merry Farm

We attended as guests of the venue.

This year our family visited Knott’s Merry Farm for the very first time. Having not been to the park since I was a child, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but we were so pleasantly surprised and it ended up being the perfect way to kick off the holiday season and really kick start our Christmas spirit!

Knott's Merry Farm

Upon entering the park the first thing one notices (especially my kids who are huge adrenaline junkies) are the huge rollercoasters looming overhead.  Screams and shrieks of joy (or possibly terror) ring out in the air, but are merrily drown out by Christmas music humming in the background.  We took that as our cue to first check out the seasonal happenings in the park.

Almost everywhere you look there are festive holiday touches adorning the normally western themed 160 acre ammusement park.  We made our way back to Santa’s Christmas Cabin and upon entering, my kids were so glad we did!

Inside the quaint red barn are a dozen or so different booths set up with every holiday treat imaginable – from candy apples, hot chocolate, cookies and milk, chocolate dipped cheesecake to authentic maple syrup lollypops (made the old fashioned way in the snow!) there is literally something to satisfy every taste bud.

Outside the cabin there is a small courtyard set up with tables and chairs and a few more booths including turkey dinner bites (basically an entire thanksgiving dinner rolled up in a ball and deep fried – yum!) and a holiday bar offering beer and wine. We settled down the kids with some treats and enjoyed some appetizers and a drink while listening to Christmas tunes play overhead.

After everyone finished their snacks, we headed back into the Christmas Cabin to send off out letters to Santa and see the Jolly Ol’ Fellow himself.

Knott’s really has an adorable set up for Santa visits.  My kids were humming with excitement just waiting for his appearance on this festive stage. Knott's Merry Farm

Next it was on to catch a couple of the special Holiday shows. From Charlie Brown and Snoopy and the gang to the Calico Saloon, there is quite the holiday entertainment at Knott’s.its-the-merriest-christmas-show-ever-charlie-brown-1

Once we’d seen the Holiday offerings, we had to check out some of the year round attractions at Knott’s. One of our favorites was definitely the working steam engine that circles the park.  My little guy, who is as obsessed with trains as any two year old can possibly be, was in seventh heaven.  But the whole family got a kick out of the mock hold up that a few of the wild west bandits enacted in each train car.

And of course my little thrill seekers wouldn’t have been satisfied if we didn’t checkout some of the awesome rollercoasters that Knott’s has to offer.

We ended the night with a last look at the Knott’s Merry Farm Christmas tree and walked down the old western street with snow falling and Even in My Memory softly playing overhead.   It was the most fun way to kick off the Christmas season this year!
