Let your Light Guide You Through A Wrinkle in Time

We attended a screening as a guest of Disney

Have you ever felt alone, misunderstood, different?  Have you ever closed your eyes and imagined a magical land that you feel is within your reach?  If yes then maybe you experienced a wrinkle….A Wrinkle in Time.

Based on the 1962 novel by Madeleine L’Engle, A Wrinkle in Time is the story about the journey a girl makes to find not only her father, who is lost in a wrinkle in the universe but also herself.

Director Ava DuVernay takes the audience on a ride to a cinematic dream.  Honestly, you will feel as if you are in a beautiful dream.  A dream that a girl has to reunite with her father; a dream to feel as if she is part of a community; a dream to be understood; a dream to belong.

Meg, who is played by Storm Reid, puts caution to the wind and follows three mystical beings into the universe to rescue her father.

The three astral travelers, Mrs. Whatsit (Reese Witherspoon), Mrs. Who (Mindy Kaling), and Mrs. Which (Oprah Winfrey) take Meg, her brother Charles Wallace, and classmate Calvin from planet to planet to find her astrophysicist father, Alex.

In the midst of their journey, they learn that Meg’s father is trapped in a distant planet deep in the grips of a universe-spanning evil called The Thing.

The Thing is this dark matter that seeps into the soul and causes chaos, havoc, sadness, anger, and self-loathing to everything it touches as it tries to overtake the universe.

As the story unfolds, we see a struggling Meg; a meek, self-doubting girl transform into a strong heroine that saves the universe from its ultimate demise.  All it took was for her to look deep within herself, embrace her flaws which then helped her harness the strength necessary to defeat the darkness closing in on them.

How is this possible?  Light!  Within us all is light.  Light is strong, bright, overpowering, and can snuff out darkness.  How is that possible?  In even the darkest of dark, is a flicker of light.  Once you let the light surface, it will grow until it completely takes out the darkness, something which in my opinion is very much linked to hope.

We as a group need light to live.  Light gives us hope, growth, a future.  We all have it within us; we just need to figure out a way to let it out and aid us in fighting for good.

With such a profound meaning, A Wrinkle in Time is the perfect family, feel good, empowerment movie of the year.  It’s the type of movie an entire family and community can go see and come out feeling anew.

A Wrinkle in Time opens in theaters today!
