Life is a Cabaret
We attended as a guest of the SCFTA
We were invited to attend the opening night of “Cabaret” now playing thru August 21, 2016 at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa. Performed by The Roundabout Theatre Company while they are celebrating their 50th Anniversary Year. As big fans of the arts and the theatre, we were thrilled to be invited to see Cabaret!
In the opening scene, the Emcee, played by Randy Harrison; introduces you to the ladies and gentlemen of the Kit Kat Klub! They all have wild personalities that are perfectly executed by the dancers. Randy’s voice is strong and we watch while he glides across the stage with such ease and purpose. He’s wonderful!
Sally Bowles, played by Andrea Goss steals your heart with her beautiful voice. We found ourselves in complete awe several times during her vocal performances. As we discover she is no stranger to Broadway, so seeing her at Segerstrom is such a treat for all of us local theatre patrons.
Guided further into the story, forgetting that you are in a theatre; it’s fun, lively and the dancing and singing has you tapping your feet as you smile and kinda wish you were up there with the theatre group.
As many may not be aware, there is a strong message hidden in Cabaret. Our hearts are moved realizing how theatre can create powerful emotions, making us stop and remember the world we live in and humanity. Even in present day we create moments thru imagination to distract ourselves.
We highly recommend you take the time to visit Segerstrom for this lovely yet fun production of Cabaret! If you love theatre as much as we do, you’ll be happy you indulged your senses with a high energy, creative evening of dancing and singing not to be missed!
