My friend Pam and I hit the Segerstrom Center for the Arts on opening night to see the stage version of the enormously popular “I Love Lucy” television series, I Love Lucy Live on Stage. If you go, arrive early to take advantage of the photo booths set up for the audience. You’ll find a nice “I Love Lucy” backdrop on the main level for your pictures. Be sure to go upstairs for the Vitameatavegamin booth where you can photograph yourself in the famous television commercial.

As we entered the theater, we found ourselves whisked back to the 1950s and discovered we were part of the Desilu Playhouse soundstage. The television studio host welcomed us to the filming of two familiar “I Love Lucy” episodes. We were treated to 50s style musical commercials and sat back to enjoy the show we have loved for so long. It was a pleasant trip down memory lane.

While the cast did everything they possibly could to bring these characters to life, I thought Bill Mendieta as Ricky Ricardo was particularly good. I loved his rendition of Babaloo.
Next time around, I hope to see them add brand new episodes based on the series and new humorous commercials. I do like a surprise now and then.

This is a sweet show perfect for people wanting to experience the nostalgic innocence of the fifties with the most popular television show of its time.

The show stars Sirena Irwin and Bill Mendieta as Lucy and Ricky from the original Los Angeles and Chicago productions. They are joined by Kevin Remington and Joanna Daniels as Fred and Ethel, the Ricardo’s best friends and landlords. Tickets are currently for sale starting at $29.

There are just two shows left, so hurry and get your tickets before they are gone!
