Mastering The Core Fundamentals Of Your Wellbeing

Being well and healthy is important if you want to live a full and enjoyable life. Of course, it is not always straightforward to make sure of this, but it is nonetheless something that you will need to look into in order to try and live your life as fully as you can. If you are not entirely sure of what you might need to do in order to improve your wellbeing, there are actually a number of core fundamental principles that you might want to focus on and look into.

Understanding Your Needs

First of all, it can be helpful to look closely at what your needs are, so that you can more fully understand them. The more that a person understands their needs, the more likely it is that they are going to know how to get closer to them, so this is obviously a vital thing that you should be aware of. So how can you get to a place where you are understanding your needs more effectively, easily and fully?

Well, you need to first grasp that there are many different kinds of needs which you may have. There are bound to be psychological and emotional needs, for instance, but you certainly also have physical needs of many kinds too. And a lot of people would also agree that there are certain spiritual needs that they have which need to be accounted for as well. All in all, it’s invaluable to be aware of all of these, so that you can know that you are bringing a genuine holistic wellness to your being.

If you find it difficult to get in touch with your needs, then this is itself just a need that requires some work and some focus. You need to spend some time getting to the bottom of what your needs are. Once you have done that, you will be ready to move on and try to fulfill your other deep needs in turn.



Let’s look in some more detail at the physical side of things. You have a number of physical needs. At the most basic, this includes things like a need for shelter, warmth and food. But if you build on those a little, you also need not just any food, but good food – with all the minerals and nutrients which are important for your general bodily health.

There are other kinds of physical requirements too which you might consider important for a healthier overall being, such as sex and human contact. These should be considered just as essential, and one of the things most people need to make sure of here is that they effectively find a way to keep their sexual needs met, in a healthy manner. If you can find a good relationship with your own sexual desires, your being will benefit profoundly.


As well as the physical needs, there are, as we have already mentioned, a range of psychological ones. Again as with the physical, psychological needs vary a lot and some might be considered more fundamental than others. However, they are all vital in their own way, and a good life is all about finding a decent way to achieve all of these in their various guises.

There is often a lot of overlap between physical and psychological needs. A good example of this is with security – you need to be physically safe in your environment, and you also need the psychological benefits and results of this too, so that is something that you should make sure you are thinking about. You can also likewise think of the giving and receiving of attention as a kind of nutrition for the mind, which should not be ignored or overlooked.


Most people will require a sense of autonomy and control too, the sense that there is a kind of self that has will and is using it in an appropriate, kind and healthy manner. These are all things that you can bring together and cultivate as necessary. But bear in mind that some might take time. Sometimes you’ll need to change a situation in your life, or seek out some counseling, in order to make the necessary changes. Sometimes you might also need a sense of community to help with this and other aspects of your general wellbeing.

All in all, you are going to need to have a decent psychological health if you want to be well in a general sense, as it will cause ripples that will affect many other areas of your life.


Most people have some sense of their spiritual needs, although this can of course vary a lot person to person, and it might not always be called spiritual, but could instead come under a different heading for some. However, whatever it is that you call this side of yourself, insofar as you see you do have this aspect of your nature, that aspect needs to be tended, cared for and appreciated, just as much as the physical and psychological. In truth, it is just another formulation of those two, and so the three are inextricably linked and composed of one another.

Good spiritual health means understanding, at least relatively, your place in the order of things, and having some kind of sense of your connection to something higher, or beyond, or a unification with nature or other people. It might not necessarily be god (though it could be), but the important thing is that you are behaving and practicing in a way which aligns your sense of self with whatever you take to be the cosmological truth of the world.

In this way, you can see how spirituality can be an important part of your overall wellbeing. If you are spiritually healthy, it will make other kinds of health much easier to claim for yourself.


Making The Necessary Changes

In order to gain all of these fundamental needs, there are a range of actions you may wish to take, and changes that you might want to look into making. You can start anywhere, but let’s say you begin with physical wellbeing. For this, you’ll want to ensure you are getting plenty of exercise, protect your health with Medicare fundamentals and make a point of eating healthy food as much as possible.

When it comes to the emotional side, you will find that it is already improving as a result of that physical work, but you might also want to try and live more honestly and in tune with your emotions, and find an expressive outlet too. And when it comes to the spiritual stuff, that is all about carving out a practice that you feel is necessary and important for your own spiritual needs, whatever they may be in your case.
