Miguel’s Jr. Delivers Fresh & Delicious Mexican Food

Miguel’s Jr. is finally coming to Redlands in the new Mountain Grove shopping center! Judging by the happy faces and empty plates at the preview breakfast, it’s sure to be a hit. Founder Mary Vasquez and her son Javier, who is the CEO and President, were on hand to welcome everyone to what will be the 16th store in the beloved family business.

Mike and Mary Vasquez opened the first Miguel’s Jr. in 1975 with recipes inspired by Mary’s childhood, and they have been fine tuning and improving the food ever since. Their commitment to delivering the freshest, best tasting Californian Mexican food in an inviting ambiance is evident in this newest location.

The first thing you’ll notice when you enter is the bright and fresh design and the hearty welcome from the excellent staff. Walking past the uber fresh salsa bar prepares you for the yummy options that await on the menu that truly offers something for everyone. From their famous burritos and green chile verde marinated potatoes (which are just as delicious as I have always heard) to the perfectly crunchy taquitos and fresh tostada, my entire family was beyond satisfied.

My 8-year-old who is the pickiest of picky eaters paused mid-taquito to say, “I LOVE this food!” A visit to the “Famous Hot Sauce and Other Fresh Stuff” bar was the perfect complement to every dish. “Fresh” is an understatement where there was not a single wilted cilantro leaf in sight. And just when I was wondering whether I should try the marinated carrots, I noticed the sign saying, “don’t be frightened” and was glad for the nudge. They were nice and crunchy with just the right amount of heat, yet mild enough for my 3-year-old to enjoy. I would love to say I enjoyed every last bite of my delicious tostada, but I only loved it until my kids (who normally run from anything that remotely resembles a salad) took over my plate and polished it off. We all enjoyed the fact that this is the first location to be serving homemade lemonade and horchata, using all natural pure cane sugar. We’ll definitely be back for those on the hot summer days that are just around the corner.

And if you’re thinking that you might have to go elsewhere because all this hearty food would be great if you were hungry, but all you want is a good quality coffee, it’s worth noting that my coffee snob of a husband went back for TWO coffee refills.

The cherry on top on this Saturday morning was that this wholesome, fresh, protein packed meal had my boys fueled and ready for their soccer games. Miguel’s Jr. is located at 2751 San Bernardino Avenue, Redlands, CA 92374.
