Mind-Blowing Technologies You Have No Idea Exist (But Could Change Your Life)

Technological development is something that happens in silence. Very few people can see it coming.

In the 19th and early 20th centuries, most elite academics, for instance, thought that powered flight was impossible. Then, just a couple of years after predictions that it would never happen, it did, to the surprise of many.

The same is true in the modern world. Things seem like they’re impossible. Then they happen. Then everyone just assumes that they’re normal.

In this post, we take a look at some mind-blowing technologies you have no idea exist and how they impact your life. Check them out below:

Neural Network Architectures

Computers are great for performing calculations, but can they really think like us?

If you ask most people, the answer to that question is a firm “no, they can’t.” Machines aren’t that advanced yet.

However, you’d be surprised. It turns out that open AI systems are much more sophisticated than many people realize. What’s going on in labs around the world is enough to make your head spin.

Remember, computer systems tend to advance very rapidly indeed. Over the last five years, progress has been exponential, and will likely continue into the future. By the mid-2020s, things could look radically different.

Automated Packaging

If you run an ecommerce business, packaging automation is somewhat of a holy grail. Being able to simply pack objects on the fly without having to enter specific parameters into the machinery seems impossible.

However, thanks to neural networks mentioned above, it is becoming reality. Machines are now able to scan incoming objects and then choose suitable packaging for them in real time, just like a human wrapping a gift.

Insurance Tech

Insurers need to be able to assess the risk you pose before getting you to sign up to a premium. The higher the risk, the more you’ll pay.

Unfortunately, insurers don’t actually have a good grasp on how much you’re likely to cost them. That’s because they can only ever go on the proxy information you provide.

Now, though, that could be changing or, at least, improving a little.

Insurance tech is another AI-based system that helps to work out how much to charge individual customers.

Visible Light That Kills Germs

You can kill germs, such as COVID-19, with ultraviolet light: that’s easy. However, destroying them with visible light usually isn’t possible. That’s because it doesn’t usually contain enough energy to disrupt them.

Of course, UV is dangerous to humans, so researchers would love a way to use visible light to the same effect. Such a technology could be invaluable in hospital settings and clinics.

Now, though, researchers are finding ways to calibrate blue light so that it can actually kill germs. This way, medical practitioners can reduce their reliance on antibiotics which is leading to the generation of superbugs.

Phone Call Answering Bots

Lastly, Google and other brands are creating phone call answering bots. These actually take calls like a real human would, noting down information and reporting it, a bit like a virtual assistant might.
