Mom’s Day Out Keeping up with The Joneses

We attended the event as a guest of 20th Century Fox

Over the years of living in suburbia, I have watched many neighbors try and “keep up with the Joneses.” When I first saw the trailer for the upcoming movie “Keeping up with the Joneses,” I couldn’t wait to see it with my husband. Along with the honor of receiving an invitation to the premiere of the film, I got invited to have an epic Mom’s Day Out in LA to undergo a couple of the adventures that the actors experience in the film.

My day started out at Universal City Walk where I would get on a thick blue jumpsuit and skydive. Well, not skydive out of a plane, but in a simulator. If you’ve been following my blog for any length of time, then you know how fearful I am of heights. I am so fearful that I avoid high freeway overpasses and always ride the Dumbo ride at Disneyland at the lowest possible level – but I was ready to face my fear of heights.

I got into my jumpsuit, put ear plugs in my ears, covered my eyes with goggles, and I was ready. About ten of us went into the simulator where the instructor did a small demonstration for us. I kept thinking about how I was going to get out of it when the instructor called on me first to go into the simulator. I then did something I never thought I would ever do and jumped into the simulator. I had it down. I was flying low to the ground, and it was awesome. Then the instructor spun me up to the top of the tank – and I screamed like I have never screamed before. Surprisingly, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I was scared, don’t get me wrong, but it was exhilarating. Plus, I did it! I faced my fears!

Next stop was at a local pub – yes, we went to a bar in the middle of the afternoon – where we would learn how to play darts from a professional dart player. We all munched on Chinese food, drank soda and played a couple of rounds of darts. I learned that I have some mad dart playing skills, and can’t wait to try it again.

Our amazing day ended with a seductive cooking class. It was the perfect ending to a fabulous Mom’s Day Out reliving some of the funny scenes in the film “Keeping up with The Joneses.” The film will be out in theaters on Friday, October 21st.
