Mother-Daughter Road Trip in a Buick Envision
Test vehicle provided
As my daughter has become a teenager, it has been increasingly important for me to spend quality time with her. It is so easy for a teenage girl to go down the wrong path in life, and having a good role model in her life that she can talk to about the challenges of being a teenager is crucial. Along with having our regular dinner dates and evening walks, I planned a mother-daughter road trip to Yosemite in a beautiful Buick Envision.
Since she is going to be driving in just three short years, I thought that a road trip would be a fun way to spend our getaway so that I can talk to her about teen driving behavior. I decided to take her in a Buick Envision so that I could demonstrate with her the Teen Driver Technology that Buick, Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac has in ten of its 2017 cars, trucks and SUVs.
While driving the 2017 Buick Envision to Yosemite with my daughter, we had the time of our life. We made many stops along the way to admire the beauty of central California. My daughter was able to plug her iPhone into the car to utilize Apple CarPlay. She was able to share all her favorite songs on her iPhone playlist with me, and even take a couple of calls from her girlfriends through the speakers of the car. As she was enjoying using Apple CarPlay, I was able to talk to her about the importance of not being a distracted driver, and utilizing her vehicle features to keep her attention on the road.
I was able to get great gas mileage from Orange County to Yosemite in our 2017 Buick Envision with its 20mpg city and 26mpg highway. Plus power was not an issue with its 2.5L direct-injected engine with stop/start technology.
As we went from the warm weather of Orange County to the chilly weather in Yosemite, we were comfortable in the car with the heated seats and heated leather-wrapped steering wheel. As we approached the icy mountain roads, I didn’t have to worry because of the twin clutch AWD system that helped us to get to the mountain resort safely.
The one teen driver feature that I loved about the Buick Envision was the rear-vision camera with rear park assist. So many of my friends with teenage drivers have complained about their teens getting into accidents when backing up in parking lots. When I put the Buick Envision into reverse, and a car was approaching, the seat would vibrate to let me know there was a car approaching. It is a feature that I want in all of my teenager’s first cars.
Another great teen safety feature in the Buick Envision is the lane departure warning and lane keep assist. Ensuring that our teens stay in their lanes and don’t impede on cars in surrounding lanes is vital to keeping teenagers safe on the roads.
We are so fortunate to have the technology available to keep our teens safe when they are behind the wheel. When purchasing my teenage daughter her first car, I am going to make sure that it comes with Teen Driver Features. As parents, we have so much that we worry about with our teenagers. According to a Harris Poll survey, more than 55% of parents worry about their teens driving. When putting your teenager in a car equipped with teen driver features, you can put some of that worry to rest.
