Musical Masterpiece: The Book of Mormon

We visited as a guest of the venue

One of my favorite things to do in Orange County is to see a show at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts. The Segerstrom Center for the Arts has made musicals one of my new favorite obsessions. When I started out the season this year with Something Rotten, I didn’t think any show could beat that. Well, I was very wrong.

The Book of Mormon was one of the funniest theatre productions I have ever seen in my entire life. Not only was I laughing the entire time, but I also found myself getting emotional during the sad parts. There was a perfect balance of emotion, and I think I laughed more than one hundred times during the performance. The characters made everything come together so perfectly and this for sure goes up into my top three shows I have ever seen at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts.

Before going to see The Book of Mormon, I talked to all my musical theatre friends and asked them if they have ever seen it and what they thought about the production. All of my friends who had seen The Book of Mormon, made me sit down with them and listen to the entire musical playlist. After I heard the playlist with them, it just made me ten times more excited. I love good music, and this production is heaven for music lovers.

When it came to the production and design team who created the sets for the production, they did an incredible job. It was one of the coolest stage sets I have ever seen with all of the interchanging back rounds and the fun buildings. Also, the costumes were perfect for each character. The Elders all wore their uniforms, and my personal favorite was the light up suit they gave to Jesus.

The last thing I have to say about The Book of Mormon is I’m usually the person who sits in their seat and laughs inside my head and considers it “laughing,” but this show actually made me laugh out loud. It takes a lot to get me to laugh out loud, but this show did it.

You have to hurry because Book of Mormon is only at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts until April 1st. If you don’t watch this show, then your life will never be complete, but I wouldn’t recommend taking young children to see it just because they do use profanities. Seeing The Book of Mormon at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts was probably one of the best nights of my life so far. Tickets are currently available online at SCFTA.org.
