OC Mom Spotlight: Jami Rogers

There are so many inspiration moms in Orange County, and each month, we are thrilled to feature a different mom who is making a difference in our community. This month, we are featuring the OC Mom, Jami Rogers who resides with her family in Irvine.

Tell us about your family?

My husband, Adam, and I have two energetic, fantastically funny boys. Isaac is 11 years old and Caleb is 9 years old. I also have two boy dogs, Maverick and Kevin. Yep, there are a lot of boys in my house!

What do you love the most about our community?

The only thing stronger than a community of women is a community of mothers. Mothers are the driving force and backbone for the betterment of their family’s life. I have learned so many unique approaches to problems and new opportunities for growth from this community that I am extremely grateful for.

What is your best advice to other moms?

Grace. Have grace. Grace for yourself and grace for other moms. We are all doing the best we in that day and in that moment. Grace.

What is your favorite memory as a mom?

Jami Rogers Family

The time we were on a Disney cruise vacation and got caught in a monsoon riding our bikes. After the shock wore off that we were now riding in heavy rain we all immediately started laughing, embraced the craziness of the moment, and just kept on riding. I think that moment is a metaphor for life. In the storm you need to have a positive attitude and keep on riding.

Tell us about your new book?

Throughout my fifteen-year marriage, my husband’s health has been one of the biggest struggles of our lives. His blood results are always in the red, too high and too far into the danger zone. High blood pressure, high cholesterol, one step away from pre-diabetes. Always red. His weight was always obese. Finally, I had had enough. Though marriage is a partnership, I believe it is my job as wife and mother to keep my family healthy and set them on the road to success. But that road has proven harder than I expected. We tried countless exercise regimens and diets to counteract the rising blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes risk, and weight. Yet year after year we failed. Until this past year.

My book, The Road to the Top of Plant Mountain: A Real Family’s Testimony and How-to Guide to Plant-Based Eating, follows my transformational journey from New Year’s resolution to plant-based advocate. But it’s not only my journey, it is also the story of how my husband’s health was completely revolutionized from red to green and how my two sons learned to love tofu and the value of eating real food, versus highly manufactured and processed food.

We faced struggles and had to overcome a lot of hurdles, but we all survived, made it to the top of the mountain, and are still one happy, now healthier, family.

What made you want to begin writing it?

Honestly, I literally had to write this book. Every fiber in my being demanded it. This health transformation has been probably the most inspiring and life changing of my life. I had to share our story so that other families, other moms, could get a real life, step-by-step guide how to change their lives and their lives of their family.

What do you hope people will take away from it?

My mission is for people, specifically moms, to learn about the health changing benefits of plant-based eating and start taking steps to implement this style into their daily lives. Plant-based can seem overwhelming but it really doesn’t have to be. Change happens with one step. In the book I use the analogy of a turtle. The turtle moves slow, one step at a time, but as we know in the childhood tale, he ultimately wins the race. Start slow, with changing just one meal one day/per. I recommend breakfast because it’s the easiest. Then when you master that then do it for two days and then three. change another meal, maybe lunch or snacks. Be the turtle!

  1. Absolutely an excellent choice for OC Mom. Jami Rogers is a “down to earth” person who has definite ideas but is always open to listen to others. I have her book “The Road To The Top Of Plant Mountain” and it is told with so much humor, advise and common sense, would encourage everyone to get a copy.
