OC’s Ancient Wonders Family Fun Event

Join OC Parks and the Dr. John D. Cooper Archaeological and Paleontological Center at Mile Square Regional Park Saturday, September 9 for OC’s Ancient Wonders, a free educational family event.

OC’s Ancient Wonders will present Orange County’s rich heritage of natural history, prehistoric animals and plants, and Native American culture to the community. The event will feature displays of local fossils and Native American artifacts, educational crafts and hands-on activities for kids of all ages, archery demonstrations, Native American storytelling, guided hikes led by Naturalist for You, a volcano demonstration and a butterfly tent by Western Monarch Guardians.

The Dr. John D. Cooper Archaeological and Paleontological Center is a partnership of OC Parks and California State University, Fullerton. The event will be located at Mile Square Regional Park’s Nature Area and Archery Range. Parking is $5 per vehicle.

Hands-on activities will include Native American rattles, Microfossil Investigation, Native American rock art, mini-dinosaur fossil excavation, and Monarch butterfly and whale skeleton crafts.

Activities and demonstrations:

11:45 a.m. – Guided hike by Naturalist for You
12:30 p.m. – Volcano demonstration
1:15 p.m. – Native American Storytelling by Jacque Tahuka-Nunez of Journeys to the Past
2:00 p.m. – Guided hike by Naturalist for You

Archery demonstrations and Butterfly tent available throughout the day.
