Offered by The Reserve at Rancho Mission Viejo. Would you like to learn to identify some of our local feathered friends? Enjoy an early summer morning with docent bird expert Tom Eastman, while quietly combing part of the Sienna Botanica and Horno Basin for our resident and migrant birds. Due to the proximity of the water, this is a great spot to view a variety of birds. There will be lots to see and learn along the trail and overlooking the basin. Please wear nature-colored or dark colored clothing to keep from startling away the birds – and don’t forget your binoculars! Event is for ages 8 and up and runs 7:00am – 9:30am. Register online. Fee is $10 Adult and $5 Child.

Join our Park Rangers Sunday mornings for an easy 1-mile hike on the Nature Trail. Hike runs 8:00am – 9:00am. The trail takes visitors through grassland, oak woodland, riparian and sandy cactus scrub communities. Meet at Old Corral Day Use area. Rain will cancel hike.

  • Fee: Free
  • Parking: $5 per vehicle
  • Wear comfortable clothing, hiking shoes.
  • Sunscreen, water and insect repellent are recommended.

Come explore the buildings and surroundings of the BBSC!   Event occurs every Sunday and runs 10:00am – 2:00pm. Talk to the City of Newport Beach staff and volunteers about ongoing research, education, & restoration projects. Get your fingers wet in our tide pool touch tank, tour the teaching lab and aquarium tanks, and do some bird watching. The Science Center is located just off of Back Bay Drive on Shellmaker Island (600 Shellmaker Rd). This program is free and no reservations are required.

Step back in time to explore the rich history of Irvine and the Irvine family. This docent-led walking tour reveals what life was like in Old Town Irvine in the early 1900s with site tours of what was once the bean granary, boarding house, blacksmith shop and more. Meet in the La Quinta Hotel Lobby in Old Town Irvine (Sand Canyon and Burt Road). There are construction closures on Sand Canyon just south/west of Burt Road. Please use the 5 freeway to access Sand Canyon and allow extra time to get to arrive. Meet in the lobby area of the La Quinta Inn. Event runs 12:00pm – 2:00pm. The Art Lab: Creation Stations – Play, create and explore at our self-directed creation stations. These hands-on activities emphasize divergent thinking, problem solving skills and innovation. The HB Concert Band Summer Series is an eleven-week series featuring a variety of performance groups and music, such as community bands, Latin bands, and swinging Big Bands. This after hours concert series and tasting event features live music, art by local artisans, Zoo animals, Train & Carrousel rides. For an additional $10 donation, you can get wristband access to an exclusive beer garden tasting experience. Adults 21 and over for the beer garden, please. All funds raised help the Zoo.

Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner, blanket, family and friends and enjoy the concerts. Sunsets at the Zoo are a great Sunday summertime activity for friends, family, and couples looking to picnic together, while listening to live music and enjoying all the Zoo has to offer.

Event runs 5:30pm – 7:30pm. Cost is $12.95/person ages 3 & up. FOSAZ members pay half price admission of $6.95/person.

Knowlwood Café at the Zoo restaurant sponsors a “Blues at the Zoo” concert series on the same dates as Sunsets. However, they are separate events from Sunsets. These family fun concerts take place during regular Zoo hours from 2-4 PM inside the Zoo on the front lawn and feature some of the finest Blues performers and bands in Orange County. “Blues at the Zoo” is included in the regular price of Zoo admission.

Join Aliso Viejo Community Association on Sunday, July 12th from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm at Grand Park for a live concert. For those of you who come to the park early, blankets and chairs are allowed. No roping off, no caution tape, no tarps are allowed. All tarps will be removed by AVCA due to the damage they cause to the grass. AVCA is not responsible for any unattended items.

“Concerts on the Green” is a free series of outdoor concerts presented by Concordia University Irvine. Stone Soul performs timeless soul and Motown classics from legendary artists such as Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles and The Temptations on July 12 from 5-7 PM. Bring folding chairs and blankets for seating; picnics. Concert takes place on the lawn between Grimm Hall and the C.U. Center. Snacks will also be available in the campus’ Emandare Café.

Grab your lawn chairs, picnic baskets and dancing shoes for an evening of music in the park. Gourmet food trucks will be onsite with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the Irvine 2/11 Marine Adoption Committee and other Irvine nonprofit organizations. Event runs 5:30pm – 7:30pm. Things to bring: chairs, blankets, sweatshirts, picnics or plan on enjoying a specialty item from one of the gourmet food trucks. Long pants, closed toed shoes and layered clothing are strongly recommended.

The City Arts Commission will present four fantastic performances as part of the “Concerts on the Green” series during the summer of 2015. Concerts in the Parks are on Sundays, from 6-7:30 pm and are free to the public. Bring your blankets and beach chairs! Concerts are from 6-7:30 pm.

Come out and enjoy the evening with us on the lower section of the Agua Chinon trail. This trail meanders along a dry wash, at the bottom of a beautiful sage scrub covered canyon and below the Sinks formation, providing a glimpse into a beautiful riparian area along the northern edge of the Irvine city limits.

The three to four mile out and back route has some elevation gain on the way out, but the hike is done at a moderate pace. Please bring water and wear sturdy shoes. This hike is not suitable for children under 10. Event runs 6:30pm – 8:30pm for ages 10 and up. Register online. Driving directions emailed upon registration.
