Orange County Rescue Mission Brings Hot Meals to Huntington Beach

orange county rescue mission

Giving to those in need is something we can all support.  We were happy to hear that The Orange County Rescue Mission has expanded its service area and will now add a new location in Huntington Beach to its weekly Chili Van service.  The organization’s Chili Van will bring hot meals each Monday evening to the corner of 11th and Main Street in the parking lot for Lake Park in Downtown Huntington Beach.

The OC Rescue Mission’s helps to feed hundreds of hungry men, women and children throughout Orange County.

“Many homeless individuals do not have the means of transportation to make it to a soup kitchen for a hot meal,” explained Jim Palmer. “Through our Chili Van, we have created a mobile soup kitchen, which allows us to serve those in need by bringing the food service directly to them.”

The Chili Van now serves Huntington Beach and other Orange County’s homeless three nights a week:

· Monday nights from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Lake Park in Huntington Beach

· Tuesday nights from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 26010 Domingo Avenue in Capistrano Beach

· Thursday nights from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Santa Ana Civic Center

The Orange County Rescue Mission and Mariners Church Huntington Beach partnered to help add the Huntington Beach location to their service stops.  The Rescue Mission provides all the food and the Chili Van, while volunteers from Mariners Church Huntington Beach serve the chili and offer their outreach to attend to homeless individuals.  However, assistance is still needed from the community of Huntington Beach to help pay for the operating costs associated with the Chili Van itself.

The Orange County Rescue Mission Chili Van serves an average of 100 to 300 individuals and will grow to service 75 people each visit by May.  Palmer adds, “The cost for each night of service is approximately $500, and we have been fortunate that local businesses and community members have been willing to contribute to help us keep this program going.”

Businesses or individuals who wish to get involved and support the Chili Van can call The Orange County Rescue Mission at (714) 247-4300, or can make a monetary donation by visiting www.RescueMission.org.  For those in Orange County that wish to support through donations, such as food and clothing, items can be dropped off  at the Orange County Rescue Mission’s Village of Hope facility, located at 1 Hope Drive in the city of Tustin, California between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
