Pacific Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Beach

Sea animals and marine biology have been a huge part of my life growing up. Especially since I only live about 3 miles from the ocean. I have grown up walking around tide pools and learning all about the ocean. Just recently I discovered the centers and places in Laguna Beach that can help teach me more about marine biology. One of my new favorites is the Pacific Marine Mammal Center.

One of my favorite things about this Center is that it is right off of Laguna Canyon Road which is right next to my house.

Pacific Marine Mammal Center focuses on Seal Lions and Seals in the area. Due to malnourishment and dehydration, more sea lions are coming in, and the Center is right there to help with that. They take sick animals in and treat them until they can rerelease them.

When I arrived for my tour, I was immediately greeted by the sound of sea lions, and elephant seals were barking. We got a little bit of background information before walking into “the barn.” The barn is where they take care of sick animals and treat them with proper care.

Once we finished learning all about the feeding system of the animals, we went outside to learn some of their stories. There was one sea lion that was blind and was being held there only until they could find a home for him.

There was also another sea lion that was missing one eye. The best thing is, is that the Center saves these animals before they die of not having the proper care.

For the general public, admission is free. There are over 200 volunteers that will take you to see the animals and tell you about marine biology. You can see the outside cages and see some amazing animals.

They also offer summer camps there for little ones if you have an interest in having your children learn more about the ocean. You can get more information on their website or by calling them. You can find them at 20612 Laguna Canyon Rd, Laguna Beach, CA 92651.

Make sure to bring your whole family today to learn about the ocean you call home. The Pacific Marine Mammal Center is located at 20612 Laguna Canyon Rd, Laguna Beach, CA 92651.
