3. Quietness Together

Another great way to teach your children the benefits of quietness is to do a peaceful activity together. A friend of mine reads books to her children every night.  In the evening, the kids put on their pajamas, get cuddled in bed together, while Mom reads them stories of fun and adventure.  It’s a special time of closeness when the kids learn to have quiet bodies and listen mindfully.  Through this activity, the family is nourished and the children are learning so many important life skills.  Some additional fun ways to practice quietness together might be working on a puzzle, cooking or baking, taking a quiet, slow walk or even just sitting quietly together.  All are great ways to encourage the sacredness of quiet time and share important family time.

A daily quiet time teaches children (and adults) to develop an inner experience and become more aware of our thoughts and feelings. It also helps calm the nervous system and bring a mindful awareness of the gifts everyday life can bring us.
