Why Parents Need to Take Their Teens to See Beautiful: The Carole King Musical

We attended the event as a guest of the venue

Before going to see the musical Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. There were two things on my mind. #1 Who the heck is Carole King and #2 Why have I never heard of her before? I didn’t really want to research because I wanted to have that element of surprise added to the show. Let me tell you…The element of surprise did not disappoint.

When the curtain opened, I could almost immediately tell that the show was based in the 1940’s – 60’s because of the outfits that were shown in the first few acts. Another thing I noticed was that I was the one of the only people under the age of 65 in the audience. I thought to myself, “this can’t be right, it’s the Segerstrom!” As the Musical went on, I saw that it was based in the 1900’s, but I didn’t understand why there were no kids or teenagers there.

Let me give a message to teenagers; it is actually amazing to watch a musical not based in your time. You might not think it is cool, but it is! You get to learn about how things happened when you weren’t even born yet. My favorite part was knowing that my grandparents grew up in this age and went through all of this music. Just because it isn’t today DOES NOT mean that it is any less fantastic than musicals made about today.

In my honest opinion, I think everybody should watch this musical ages 5-500! The music shouldn’t just pass over with that time period; it should be kept alive forever. If you are an adult with a teenager, please take them to see it. Everyone will love it, and you won’t be disappointed.

I learned that Carole King wrote so many songs for other artists and some for herself. I also learned that she is a music icon whose story is so unique that it needs to be heard. Beautiful: The Carole King Musical is a must see for the entire family! It is playing at the Segerstrom until October 14, 2018.
