Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday Family Movie Night

One of my favorite 80’s television series is back with a fun and exciting movie on Netflix, Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday. When I was a kid, everyone was talking, walking, and dressing like Pee-Wee Herman, and now that I am a parent, I can share the hilarious comedies with my children.

Over the weekend, I planned a unique family movie night for my kids themed around the movie. Netflix had provided us with an interactive map and numbered “mystery boxes” to open at specific times during the film. When a scene came on in the movie that was marked on the map, we would pause the movie, and then open the mystery box. The boxes contained fun things like a red balloon that we opened right when Pee-Wee was showing off his balloon tricks, and a bag a ruffles to munch along with Joe Manganiello when he thought Pee-Wee wasn’t making it to his birthday.

It was the best movie night that we have ever had. While we were lucky to have Netflix create the mystery boxes and provide us with the map, everyone can do the same thing for any Netflix film. Simply watch the movie while your kids are in school, and find fun movie themed items to put in mystery boxes for them to open. I guarantee that they’ll never forget this kind of movie night, and you’ll create long-lasting memories together as a family.

We didn’t just have mystery boxes and an interactive map, but I also surprised my kids with a chocolate milkshake to enjoy when Joe Manganiello was sipping on his in Dan’s Diner. The kids loved having the same drink that Joe was drinking in the film, and they totally thought that Pee-Wee had made the shakes for them. Guess what? Netflix generously shared the famous (and delicious) recipe for Dan’s Diner: Classic Chocolate Milkshake!! Enjoy.

Ingredients:
2 scoops of vanilla ice cream
3/4 cup of milk
7 pumps of chocolate syrup (1 extra for Pee-Wee)

Directions:
In a blender, combine ice cream, milk, and chocolate syrup
Blend until mixture is smooth and frothy
Pour into two milkshake glasses and garnish as desired.
