Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales Hits Theaters Today!

We attended the screening as a guest of Disney

When I first heard that the fifth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean would be coming to theaters, I was a bit surprised.  It had been a number of years (6 to be exact) that we last saw a Pirates movie.  My son was very excited as this would be the first Pirates movie he would be old enough to see in theaters.  I was a bit more hesitant.  After all, they have had four other movies out there.  What will episode 5 bring for us?

And so this past Friday, we as a family caught a preview of the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

Our favorite pirate, Jack Sparrow, returns to the fifth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean. Joining him is the frenemy Geoffrey Rush as Captain Barbossa and a new villain Captain Salazar played by Javier Bardem.

There two new comers to the genre, Brenton Thwaites who plays Henry Turner (son of Will Turner played by Orlando Bloom and Elizabeth Swann played by Keira Knightley).  The other new member of the gang is Kaya Scodelario who plays Carina Smyth.

The story finds Jack Sparrow down on his luck with a crew that has left him because of his pure bad luck.  Meanwhile, Henry Turner is looking for the Trident of Poseidon as this artifact is the key to helping his father be released of his curse.

Oh and let’s not forget about the villain Captain Salazar who has been damned to eternity because of Jack Sparrow.  Captain Salazar is filled rage and is looking for vengeance.

In my opinion, this movie is the second best Pirates movie (after the first).  The movie is action packed and filled with a lot of humor.  There are some little surprises here and there so make sure you keep your eyes open for all of them.

The movie executes on several fronts, first by keeping the movie around 2 hours; there are no dull moments in the movie.  Every second on the screen has been used up to tell the story.  The plot is less complicated (something Mr. Bruckheimer mentioned as his focus for this storyline).  And finally, there are lots of action sequences and the lines are peppered with humor.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is a great summer fun movie.  My kids (boy 12 and girl 9) both enjoyed the movie.  As a family, we were laughing through the whole movie.

Pirates of the Caribbean sails in theaters today!
