The Reasons Why You Should Start Spending More Time In Your Backyard

A backyard is a place of wonder and possibility. It’s where we can be free to explore, make a mess, or just relax in the shade. But it’s also a place that many adults neglect – they’re busy trying to juggle work and family obligations, so there never seems enough time for “play.”

It doesn’t have to be this way! There are plenty of ways you can spend more time in your backyard without spending any money at all: take advantage of the long summer days with outdoor dinners; organize neighborhood games like four square; play catch with your kids before dinner, or read a book in the hammock. If you get creative, you can find ways to enjoy your backyard all year round!

The benefits of spending time in your backyard are countless. Let’s look at a few.

1) It’s Good For Your Mental Health

Spending time in nature has been linked with lower levels of stress and anxiety. Nature provides a sense of calm, peace, and serenity that can be hard to find in our everyday lives. So take a break from work, the TV, or the internet, and go outside for a while. You might be surprised at how rejuvenated you feel afterward. Picture yourself sitting outside at your cast aluminum outdoor dining furniture, enjoying the warm summer breeze. Being outside in nature is good for your mental health for a few reasons.

For one, nature is calming and peaceful – it’s a refuge from the noise and stress of our everyday lives. Additionally, interacting with nature can help us to focus and be more productive when we go back inside. And finally, spending time outside allows us to connect with each other and form a greater sense of community.

Because being outside is so good for your mental health, it’s important for adults to spend more time in the backyard. It doesn’t matter if you have a big or small backyard. If you can’t afford those daily trips to the gym, just take a walk around the block! You’ll be surprised at how much better you’ll feel.

2) It’s Good For Your Physical Health

Spending time outdoors is also good for your physical health because it allows you to get some exercise. Whether you head outside with the intention of getting some fresh air and taking a walk or set out to play a game of catch with your kids, you’ll feel better after spending an hour or so outside than you would if you were cooped up indoors. And the more time you spend outside, the stronger you’ll become!

It doesn’t matter what kind of physical activity you enjoy; anything that gets your heart rate up and makes you move around will do. So whether it’s biking, jumping rope, or even playing a game of hide and seek, make sure to enjoy it while you can because it’s good for your physical health!

Sunshine is a natural source of vitamin D, which helps our bodies to absorb calcium and phosphorous – two minerals essential for strong bones. Plus, spending time in nature can help to reduce your risk of heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and other chronic conditions.

3)  It’s Good For Your Spirit

Spending time in nature can help us to de-stress, do some soul-searching, and think more clearly. But why is this? Well, it all has to do with what’s known as “biophilia.” Biophilia means that we feel a connection with other living things; spending time in nature allows us to reconnect with the natural world, which can help us to find peace and solace.

When we’re able to take a step back from our hectic lives and really connect with nature, it can be incredibly grounding. It can also help us to see things from a different perspective, and to come up with new ideas. So if you’re feeling stuck or like you can’t seem to find a solution to a problem, go for a walk in the park or sit by a stream for a while. You’ll be surprised at how your mind will start to clear up.

And the best part is that all you need to do in order to reap this various mental, physical, and spiritual benefits is spend some time outside in your backyard. Doesn’t matter if you’re doing gardening or just sitting out on the porch drinking lemonade – whatever activity you choose will feel great!

4) It’s Good For Your Relationship With Your Kids

Spending time in your backyard with your kids is a great way to bond with them and create some lasting memories. And it’s not just the kids who benefit from this bonding experience – parents do too!

Playing outside together is a great way for parents and kids to learn about each other and connect on a deeper level. It can also help kids to develop their gross motor skills and hand-eye coordination. So get outside and play! The health benefits are well worth it.

5) It’s Good for Our Relationship with Nature

Going outside means connecting with nature at a deeper level than many of us have experienced before. And this can be really valuable because it helps us to understand more about what our role in the environment should be. Plus, getting back to basics can help us feel grounded and fulfilled when we realize how much there is to appreciate right here on this earth.
