Road Tripping with the 2014 Kia Optima SX LTD

Courtesy car provided

When planning our pre-summer getaway in Palm Springs, I wanted to travel in comfort, so we hit the road in the 2014 Kia Optima SX LTD. This was the first time that my family of five has traveled in anything smaller than a mid-sized SUV, and the car more than exceeded the needs of our family on a long road trip.

In the backseat of the car, I was able to fit a booster seat and two pre-teens comfortably. There was plenty of arm and leg room that kept the kids from quarreling along the way. In fact, I was even able to recline the front passenger seat to take a snooze without impacting the kids in the back!

I was not the only passenger in the car who took a snooze while driving to Palm Springs. The car was smooth and quiet with the 8-speaker Infinity audio system playing our favorite 80’s tunes, two of our kids were fast asleep within thirty minutes of the road trip.

As we made our way into the desert, the temperature started to rise, and we were able to keep the kids comfortable with the dual-zone automatic temperature control with rear vents and cooling front seats.

Whenever our family gets on the road, safety is always my number one concern. I was put at ease knowing that the car would keep my family protected in the event of an accident with its five-star safety rating. There are airbags hidden all around the interior of the car including dual front airbags, and front seat mounted airbags and full-length side curtain airbags. My husbands favorite safety feature was the blind spot detection system that would alert him anytime there was a car in his blind spot when attempting to make a lane change.

When it came to fuel economy, we were able to drive from Orange County, all around Palm Springs, and back on less than a tank of gas. The car gets 24 MPG with 20 in the city and 31 on the highway, but I swear it performed better than that on our road trip. With a car loaded down with five people, air conditioner blasting, and all our luggage in the trunk, the car gave us the best fuel economy we have ever had on a family road trip.

The kids had the time of their life in Palm Springs, and the created unforgettable memories with us under the panoramic sunroof while singing songs and playing our favorite road trip car games.

If you family is looking to downsize from an SUV or just looking for the perfect sedan to accommodate your family needs, the 2014 Kia Optima SX LTD is my #1 recommendation.

The car that we drove was Titanium Silver with a 2.0L Turbo gas direct injection 4-cylinder engine. It had a 6-speed transmission with 18″ chrome alloy wheels. It comes with a 10year/100,000 mile limited powertrain warranty, 5 year/60,000 mile limited basic warranty, and 5 year/ 60,000 mile roadside assistance.
