Rugged Kid-Proof Toyota 4Runner

When raising children, a car that is built to withstand bottles flying, kids jumping on the seats and having every button in the car pushed a million times is vital. I recently put the 2016 Toyota 4Runner to the test with my three kids along with my carpool, and the family SUV far exceeded my expectations.

We took the car from LA for a LA Lifeguard Safety event to San Diego for a holiday family event, and the car was smooth, quiet and luxurious. Not only did the car drive like a dream, but it also featured a sleek body style. I drove the nautical blue 4Runner with chrome accents and highlights, front fog lights, and rear privacy glass. While driving the car, I was the envy of every mom in the school drop-off line with many of my friends asking if they could check out the spacious interior.

The interior of the car had three rows and could accommodate seven passengers comfortably. I loved driving around town with the power moonroof open and feeling the sun on my face with the wind blowing through my hair. For a moment, I felt 21 again and had flashbacks of when I once drove my convertible around town. There was two-zone temperature control which comes in very handy when traveling with kids so that everyone in the car is comfortable. Then there is my other favorite interior feature – the heated seats. I was able to warm up immediately after getting in the car during the chilly early mornings when taking the kids to school.

The best thing about Toyota is their commitment to safety. The 4Runner has a 4-star overall vehicle score. It has a government safety rating of a 4-star frontal driver, 5-star side crash, and 3-star rollover. The car features a star safety system with vehicle stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, brake assist, and smart stop technology. There are airbags located throughout the car including TAP side and knee airbags, and all row-sensing side curtain airbags.

When driving teenagers around town, you’ll be the “cool mom” with the Toyota JBL sound system. Your teens will feel like they are at their favorite singer’s concert when playing music on the sound system in the 4Runner. Plus, their devices will be fueled with the multiple charging ports located throughout the vehicle.

Needing to haul something? The 4Runner is one of the best in the market for hauling boats, jet skis or camping trailers. The 4Runner Limited 4×4 that we drove featured a tow hitch receiver with a seven and four pin connector. If you just need to bring some plants home from the hardware store or a week’s worth of groceries, there is a 40/20/40 split recline and fold flat second row. Don’t forget about the family dog. Your puppy will stay cool in the back when riding in the car to the local dog park with the power sliding rear window cracked.
