Putting the “fun” in Fun Run

We attended the run as a guest of Disney

Last year, when attending the Disney Social Media Moms Conference at Walt Disney World Florida, I did my first Run Disney Fun Run. I was nervous about doing my first Run Disney run and spent weeks training for the run. I put everything I had into the run, and I was busy running as fast as I could that I forgot to have fun!

I did it! Celebrating with my kids.

This year, when signing up for the Run Disney Fun Run at the Disneyland Resort, my main goal was to have fun!

My friend, Haley and I, paired up as running partners for the run, and right from the start we were laughing and giggling together. Running through Disneyland Park before it opens tends to bring out the inner child in all of us – am I right?

Although we didn’t plan it, every time that one of us needed to stop and take a break, we took a “selfie” to show our #RunDisneySide. Before we knew it, we were thinking up fun and creative ways to take “selfies” while following the trail throughout Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park.

It ended up being the most unforgettable moment that we have ever shared in our years of friendship and something that I still giggle about when thinking about our “fun” run.
While we were one of the last to finish the run, it wasn’t about winning, but about sharing a special memory together as friends. Before we crossed the finish line, we took one last “selfie” of us finishing the race together. I have the picture framed and on my desk at home to remind me of the unforgettable memory.

It was a Disney memory that no matter how old I become, I will never forget. It reminded me that I should always take time to feel like a kid again and celebrate life surrounded by friends and family.

Run Disney is changing the lives of women across the Country. Women are making friends, getting healthy and finding a community of other women who support each other within the Run Disney community.

If you have been thinking of trying something new, and ready for some fun…sign-up for a Run Disney race. I guarantee you will create memorable memories that will last forever in your heart just like it did for me.

  1. Shelby, your post sums up our experience perfectly! I couldn’t imagine a more wonderful friend to have done this with. It was such a joy and I too have framed our final selfie photo and have it out as a memory of our awesome run together. 🙂 Maybe now we can train and run a 10k or even the Princess Half sometime? 😉
