Sabroso Craft Beer and Taco Festival

The first annual Sabroso Craft Beer and Taco Festival took place Saturday, May 3rd, in the picturesque Lake View park in Silverado Canyon.  The festival was a unique celebration, honoring Cinco de Mayo, combining two crowd pleasers: tasty tacos and craft beer.

Over thirty breweries set up tasting booths featuring over sixty different craft beers.  There was truly something for everyone ranging from a spicy habanero pale ale to a sweet peanut butter milk stout.  Ciders and fruit flavored beers rounded out the options on the lighter side. Breweries ranged from small-scale, boutique shops, such as Old Orange Brewing Company and Noble Ale Works, to well known names, such as Stone and Hangar 24. Beer enthusiasts happily sampled flavors they otherwise wouldn’t generally have the capacity to try.

Local vendors and food trucks set up shop to keep everyone happy and well fed. While a variety was available, tacos were the favored food, and in true gourmet fashion, they weren’t your standard chicken and steak with mild salsa. The ones we tried included jerk chicken with mango salsa, spiced grilled strawberry, and pulled carnitas with caramelized onion. Yum!

The event was put on by the popular OC Brew Ha Ha team, and as they are known for, the event atmosphere was lively and entertaining. Live music floated through the park, keeping with the Cindo de Mayo theme, luchadores put on a show in a rink front and center, and games such as bean bag toss, miniature golf and giant jenga were scattered around for entertainment.  If all that failed to keep your interest, the people watching was at it’s finest.

The festival would be a unique twist on date day or a fun time with a group of friends!
