How To Shake Up Your Financial Life For The Rest Of The Year

When it comes to money, we can often all feel a bit awkward. It’s never nice to think that you’re just not in the financial position that you’d like to be. And you can sometimes dwell on that. When you wish that you had more funds or that you were out of debt or that you could just feel a little bit more in control, it can be quite stressful. When really, you can use that feeling as a source of motivation to turn things around for yourself. Because there is always a way. Even when you feel like you’re never going to be able to get to where you want to be, you can. You just have to be intentional about it.

At any given time, you have the power to change your life, you just have to be ready to do it. You have to want to make it happen and then take the action necessary for it to then take off. This very much applies to your finances. As long as you’re clear with yourself and you take the sensible approach, you can totally revolutionize things. Let’s take a look at how you can shake up your finances before the end of the year.

Be Real About Where You Are

The very first thing that you need to do is just be real with where you are. Don’t spend your time worrying about things, but get clear. Because the clearer you are about where you are, the easier it is for you to then get started on changing things this year.

Set Goals

We’ve got about six months left of the year (or however many months there are in the year when you’re reading this) and that is some time to get things done. You might not be able to completely change your situation – but never say never. You need to set some goals so that you know what you want to work on, whether that’s paying down debt or saving more.

Make A Debt Payment Plan

If you know that you have debt you need to pay off, you will find that you should come up with a plan for doing it. Think of strategies for reducing debt that you can apply that’ll work for you. And just get started with them. You’ll find that this makes such a difference to your financial situation, just by getting started.

Reduce Your Expenses

From here, you may find that it’s going to help you if you can reduce your expenses too. Any way that you can make sure that your money is maximizing itself is going to be a good thing. If you’re looking to pay down debt, it can also come in handy too. Plus, it’s always a good idea to have as minimal monthly payments as possible.

Cut Your Spending

Do you tend to spend without thinking? Or maybe you’re not 100% clear on where your money goes? Then it’s definitely a good idea for you to think about cutting your spending a bit. It feels really good to be more in control of your money.

Switch Your Bills

You might then like to take a look at your bills and see what you can do to reduce the costs here. You can always switch to get a better deal – as long as you’re out of your contract. Look into cheaper utility bills for the household, affordable car insurance, and even your internet and phone! This can help to reduce your spending too.

Allocate More To Savings

If saving is your goal or you’re paying down debt and you don’t have a safety net, you have to be sure that you start to allocate more money to savings. It’s as simple as that, do it first then budget out what you have left (as long as your essentials are covered).

Earn More Money

Now, it may be that you just need to earn more. And yes, this can seem like a hard thing to do. But if you’re employed, why not look at working more hours or even going for a promotion? If you can get extra hours or a pay rise, then this could significantly help you for the rest of the year.

Get A Second Job

If you’re already at your earning capacity in your day job, you might want to think about getting a second job and supporting yourself that way. If you have spare time in your evenings and weekends, think about using that productively and working a second job like waitresses, driving a taxi, or cleaning.

Start A Side Hustle

It could be that you might even want to consider starting a side hustle. Even if you’re working as much as you can in your current job and you’re picking up extra bits, starting a side hustle could be fruitful for you. Think about different ventures you can start from home to earn more money. This could also turn into something more for you.

Sell Your Stuff

The next thing that you might want to look at doing is selling your stuff. You may find that you have things that you could get some money for. Even if it’s $50 here and there, that can all go to paying down debt or to your savings. Think about signing up for eBay, Etsy, or Poshmark and see what you can sell. Even on Marketplace or Craig’s list. Think about what you could get a bit of money for.

Start Investing

Now, if you know that you’re in an okay financial situation but it’s not going anywhere, then you need to be thinking about what you can do next. Investing could be a good idea for you. If you have money in savings and it’s not doing anything (and you don’t need it immediately), then you could get a better rate by investing in bonds or mutual funds or even looking into trading (as long as you play it safe).

Buy A Property

From here, you should then think about property. If you want to have something that you can fall back on in retirement, you could purchase a property now, rent it out, and then when the mortgage is paid off you have something there that you can sell in thirty or so years time.

Reach Your Goals

Above all else, you might then want to start working on your financial goals. Whether this was to have enough money to start a business, travel or anything else, now is the time to realize it and make it happen. It’s surprising how quickly you can turn your finances around and start working towards your dreams.

As much as you may feel like you’re stuck where you are right now, you’re not. You’re always going to be able to change your situation and move forward if you want to. But, you have to make the conscious decision to do that. It has to be something that you want and that you then actually make happen.

So have a read through each of these points and have a think about what is going to work out best for you. Then take action – because you can only ever plan so much. Make sure that you start to work on different ideas, see if they get results for you, and allow yourself to actually change your life.
