These Small Kitchen Upgrades Make So Much Sense

Whether you’re thinking about selling your house or if you just want to make your kitchen function and look better, these small kitchen upgrades are a sure bet.

Swap light fixtures

If your house still has older light fixtures (and fluorescent bulbs), now’s the time to replace them with something more modern and energy-efficient. This is a low-cost upgrade that can make a world of a difference!

Tip: For an extra umph, get a couple strips of LED lighting and stick them under the cabinets. You can also add them to the bottom of the cabinets on the floor.

Paint cabinets

When you bought your house, you may have liked the cabinets and the color may have been on-trend. But over time, trends change and your cabinets will certainly show signs of wear and tear. You can breathe new life into them with a fresh coat of paint! Right now, bold-colored cabinets are on-trend, but real estate agents suggest sticking with white paint.

Tip: Swap out the existing cabinet hardware with modern matte black hardware for an elegant look.

Lay vinyl tiles over existing flooring

If you’re tired of your existing flooring and want a cheap but effective update, luxury vinyl tile is a good option. These tiles typically peel and stick, which is great for DIYers. Do keep in mind that the beveled sides will require grouting, but that just adds to the overall wow factor on the cheap.

Tip: If you’re going to use a light-colored tile, use a dark-colored grout to make the flooring look more modern and high-end.

Replace the faucet

Replacing the faucet is a relatively easy fix that not only improves the look of your kitchen but how it functions as well. If you have a little extra in your budget, you might want to consider replacing the sink as well.

Tip: When replacing the faucet, choose a finish that matches the other hardware in your kitchen.

Decorate the cabinets

Another way you can update your kitchen is to dress up your cabinets. If you have empty space above your cabinets, consider using the space to display your platters, put plants on them, and whatever else you’d like to display.

Tip: If you don’t feel comfortable placing things directly on the top of the cabinets, you can build a shelf to give them extra support.

Peel-and-Stick backsplash

There’s a growing trend of peel-and-stick tiles on the market and for good reason. These peel-and-stick tiles are affordable and easy to put up, unlike traditional tile backsplashes. Plus, you can apply these tiles over any surface.

Tip: When it comes to choosing the perfect peel-and-stick tile design, you’ll want to take into consideration what the rest of your kitchen looks like. If your kitchen has a modern feel, then you can find “subway tiles” but if you have a farmhouse look, you can find tiles that look like brushed metals.
