Spider-Man Homecoming Cast Feel Like They are Living a Dream

I attended the press conference as a guest of Sony

It felt like a dream. I flew to New York City last week, and within hours of my arrival, I was given the amazing opportunity to be one of the first to see Spider-Man Homecoming. The next morning, I woke up in my hotel room and had to pinch myself because I couldn’t believe that I was going to meet the cast of Spider-Man Homecoming later that morning. I wasn’t the only one who felt like I was living a dream come true, but the cast also felt the same way about being a part of the best Marvel film ever made, Spider-Man Homecoming.

The film all started with lunch between Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal. “I can’t believe we are here now. It is pretty exciting,” said Pascal. They approached Spider-Man as the biggest fan possible, and finally put Spider-Man where he belongs in the Marvel universe.

When it came to Spider-Man Tom Holland gave the best performance of Spider-Man yet. The fun he projects on the screen is infectious. Tobey Maguire had a huge impact on Holland as a kid. “He was my role model growing up and was my favorite character. I had to keep reminding myself that I am going to have the same impact on kids of the younger generation. I really wanted to do them proud, and be a solid role model for them,” said Holland.

Robert Downey Jr. who some may think of as the “godfather of The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) saw the film and loved it. “I feel like they should write a book about the miracles that it took for us to be sitting down here today. It turned out so well, and what’s exciting is that they are still making movies that are really working,” said Robert Downey Jr.

One of the biggest surprises in the film is the role that Michael Keaton delivered. His character is scorned, but the most important thing to him is his family. He will do anything for his family. When preparing for the film, Keaton was not familiar with a lot of the lore. “For me, I was trying to catch-up,” said Keaton. He continued to say, “I thought it was really greatly written, and it was such a fun gig.”

Then there is Marisa Tomei who brings Aunt May to life in a whole new way for Marvel fans. The “hot” Aunt May is a refreshing change to the Aunt May that many of us know and remember from previous Spider-Man stories and what is funny about it is that Marisa Tomei had no idea what Aunt May looked like before she played the role.

My favorite character in the film is Spider-Man’s best friend Ned who is played by Jacob Batalon. His character is so greatly received by people, and when Batalon was asked about what it means to him, he said, “I’m not going to lie, I knew this was going to happen.” Everyone in the crowd burst out in laughter. He continued to say, “Tom and I really became friends, and it was easy to translate what you see in the film.”

For Zendaya, Spider-Man Homecoming is her first big film. “I was terrified, and I suppressed it very well. All of us still feel like it was a bit of a dream. I don’t know when it is going to feel real, but it doesn’t quite feel real yet. I don’t mind living in this dream,” said Zendaya. Then Robert Downey Jr. interjected by saying, “When the opening numbers come in is when it gets real.”

Tom Holland then continued to talk about the experience feeling like a dream. “I’ve been so lucky with my career. I feel like I’ve been in the right place at the right time. I’ve been so lucky to work with the best of the best and learn from them. The thought that I am sitting here with these guys is insane and does not feel real. I read a comic book yesterday that is based on my face,” said Holland.

Spider-Man Homecoming is the best Marvel film made yet. This version of Spider-Man is so relatable, and families will fall in love with him when seeing the movie in theaters this Friday, July 7th.
