Things to do in Orange County for OC Moms

Splash La Mirada Water Park

When speaking at the OCPRSA panel this past Spring, I received some vouchers to bring the kids to visit the Splash La Mirada Water Park. When I stumbled across the vouchers earlier this week, I could not believe that we had almost gone through the entire Summer without making a visit to check it out.

We had no idea what to expect before coming to the water park. It is not located, in Orange County but is right on the LA/Orange County border in La Mirada. I’m not going to lie – it was quite to trek to drive from South Orange County to La Mirada, and we were soon to learn that it was worth every mile in the car to bring the kids for a day of fun at this water park.

When we first walked into the doors of the water park, we saw some of the most pristine Olympic sized pools. The large pools are open year round and are heated to the perfect temperature. In one of the swimming pools, there were lessons happening, and the other pool had a large section for kids to swim and play.

After looking at the incredible swimming facility, we went into the water park, Buccaneer Bay. We were expecting a small water park, but were excited to find a large water wonderland. There was a water bucket themed play area for the smaller children complete with multiple water slides and water features.

My favorite was the lazy river. My girlfriend and I floated along the lazy river with our boys for most of the afternoon. We splashed, laughed and celebrated the end of summer together with our boys on the large inner tubes.

The kids favorite – the giant water slides. The spent most of the day climbing the staircase to slide down one of the three water slides. In fact, they loved it so much that we stayed until the park closed at 5:30pm.

Insider Tips:

There is no food or drink (except bottled water) allowed inside of the water park. You can bring your children outside of the water park to enjoy a picnic lunch on one of the outside tables. We choose to purchase food from the food court, that we were allowed to eat inside of the water park. The average cost of a meal is $8 at the water park food court.

I was extremely impressed with the amount of lifeguards located throughout the park. I felt like my children were safe knowing that I would have help within seconds if needed during our visit to the water park. The water park is also located right next to the police station, so there was a police officer patrolling the water park throughout the day on an electric scooter.

The water offers lockers for your family to store valuables for just $5 a day.

This is always a concern for parents visiting any water park with their children. This was one of the cleanest water parks that I have ever visited with my children. There was not a piece of trash within site, and the water was crystal clear. I noticed that there were people testing the water throughout the day to ensure that our children’s health was never compromised.

What to bring?
I would recommend bringing towels, water shoes, sunscreen and hats. The water park will provide your children with life jackets at no additional fee.
