Squaw Valley High Ropes Extreme Adventure

We visited as a guest of the venue

The one thing I am proud about instilling in my children is their love for adventure. I have been encouraging them always to go off the beaten path, and explore the world in a way that others don’t. Now that my children are getting older, they spend time researching our upcoming travel destinations to see where we can go exploring, and when planning our end of summer getaway to Squaw Valley, the high ropes experience was at the top of their list.

Kids love squaw valley

While I used to love zip lining, rock climbing, and skydiving, I have been slowly developing a terrible fear of heights as I have gotten older. When my kids mentioned the high ropes, I got a knot in my stomach thinking about climbing high in the trees of Squaw Valley, but I didn’t let that stop our fun family adventure, and made plans to experience it.

Getting ready for the high ropes

Getting rock climbing gear ready

The Squaw Valley Adventure Center is right across the street from The Village at Squaw Valley where we were staying for the weekend. We walked to the high ropes course right after having breakfast and were immediately greeted by their friendly staff.

Kids excited to do high ropes

The kids were quickly suited up in their gear and then were given a detailed safety session. The staff ensured that all the children were aware of the safety rules so that nobody would get hurt while having fun on the high ropes course.

Then it was time for the fun to begin! The high ropes course featured two levels (one for younger children, and one for children of all ages). The one level was not far from the ground, and perfect for a younger child’s first high ropes experience. The second level was much higher and perfect for thrill seeking kids to have an epic adventure.

My children zipped, climbed, and flew through level one. They then spent most of the rest of their time on the higher ropes. In the center of the course was a giant tower that was my older son’s favorite course where he was climbing and propelling over and over again. It was the perfect course for kids who have a passion for rock climbing, and definitely don’t have a fear of heights.

Then there is the staff. The staff at The Squaw Valley Adventure Center played a huge part in making the experience special for my kids. They were motivating, fun, and encouraged them to try different things.

They keep the groups small so that your children won’t feel rushed or overcrowded. The experience is open to children 5+ and is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm from June 21st through September 1st. The sessions are two hours and cost $40 (children 5-12) and $50 (adults 13+). Reservations are available online or by calling 530-581-7563.
