Students From Blind Children’s Learning Center Become Top Chefs For A Day!

Blind Children’s Learning Center
Eighteen students from the Blind Children’s Learning Center will have the opportunity to be Chefs for a day at Prego Ristorante in Irvine, where they will get a lesson in Italian cooking from Executive Chef Ugo Allesina.  Chef Allesina is Italian-born with more than 25 years of experience. This amazing event happens tomorrow on April 17th at 10:30 a.m. at 18420 Von Karman Avenue, Irvine, CA 92612 (at Michelson; exit Jamboree off the 405).
The visually impaired Pre-K and Kingergarten students range in age from 4 to 6 years old and will delight in receiving their own toques, or chef’s hats, as they create their own authentic pizzas.  Their foodie creations will be baked in Prego’s wood-fired ovens and packed for each child to take home to their families. After the students are finished making and baking their own pizzas, Prego Owners Tony and Ruth Bedi will host the students for a specially prepared lunch by Chef Allesina.
This special event allowing these students to become Top Chefs for a Day helps support their learning as students at the Blind Children’s Learning Center in Santa Ana have been learning about healthy eating.  Tactile activities, such as this hands on activity are optimal for their development and deepen their learning.    Blind Children’s Learning Center’s mission focuses on the importance of early intervention.
