Super Fit Mom Offers Tips to Beat Postpartum Weight Gain

You are all too familiar with the dreaded phrase frustratingly whispered amongst mommies around the world (cue: Jaws theme song): postpartum weight gain.

Instead of that tight waist, there’s now an extra layer of fat that reminds you of a small baby whale. Your thighs also seem to have expanded much like that of the Pillsbury Doughboy. Let’s not forget about the shoe size. The previous, normal shoe size has now reached an epic size known only to Amazon women.

Just like your little purses have been replaced by larger tote-styled bags, those cute little dresses have also been traded in for stretchy yoga pants and other “active wear.”

And this, my dear mom friends is the best you can hope for, besides, maybe getting a solid four hours of sleep. But perhaps there’s an inkling of hope for those of us struggling with the extra post-baby weight…

Ekaterina Guensler, a 39-year-old mother of four-year-old twins and personal trainer at the Renaissance ClubSport Aliso Viejo, is living proof that there is hope.

Guensler can speak from experience as she went from this:

And this:

Besides the title of mom, Ekaterina Guensler is a three-time winner of California Miss Fitness, Miss Universe, Miss Los Angeles and five-time champion of Republic of Georgia in Rhythmic Gymnastics, Silver and Bronze medals in the International Tournament of France, Belgium and Germany.

Of course, challenges, are not something new to Guensler who moved to the United States in 1999 from the struggling country of Georgia, formerly part of the Soviet Union. Guensler proudly became a U.S. citizen in 2006, and is now married with her husband, twins and 19-year-old daughter in Orange County, and believes in living life “by example” for her clients.

“I try and motivate my clients by leading by example and holding them accountable to daily, weekly and monthly goals,” explains Guensler.

This super fit mom shares her secrets with OC Mom Blog for losing that post-baby fat:

1. Give yourself at least an hour a day to exercise without kids, put them in daycare, kids club. If you take a break and work hard on your health, you will be more content, which will make you a better, happier mom.

2. Be consistent even if you have only have 30 minutes. Any work is better than no work. Consistency is key to success and happiness.

The single biggest mistake she sees her mom clients make when it comes to caring for their health is not allowing enough time for resistance training (using weights, machines, bands, etc.).

“They (moms) focus solely on repetitive cardio without allowing the body to adapt to the effects resistance training causes,” she said.

Hopefully, Guensler’s passion for her health rubs off on me. I’d love to say hello to slinky dresses and goodbye to yoga pants. Heck, I might even get crazy and break out the little purse too.
