Supporting CHOC at the Taste of Downtown Disney

We attended as a guest of the venue

Entertainment at Taste of Downtown Disney

We had the pleasure of recently attending the Taste of Downtown Disney in support of the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC). It is a lovely event, giving us the opportunity to explore the restaurants of Downtown Disney.

It was the 9th annual year for CHOC and Disney; as they combine efforts to create a lovely evening, raising awareness and funds for CHOC and part of the annual CHOC Walk in the Park fundraising campaign.

Last year’s CHOC Walk fundraising efforts brought in $2.5 million for the CHOC Children’s Kids’ Care Fund. This special fund provides funding to the programs and services in the greatest need both at the hospital and in the community—from mental health services to an expanded neonatal intensive care unit to care for children and families who cannot afford to pay. Every dollar counts for Southern California’s kids!

We were excited since there were several restaurants that we wanted to try; with our palates ready we were off to explore Downtown Disney.

Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen

Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen was our first stop with a Grilled Lamb Loli-Pop w/Mint Infused Olive Oil w/Vegetable Cous Cous; delicious! They didn’t stop there; next came the Pan Seared Scallop and a Crisp Pork Belly. All served with a refreshing sangria enjoyed on the upper floor of the restaurant.

The night had eight stops total, so we needed to pace ourselves; although smaller portions are served, we wanted to sample all of it!

Guacamole at the Taste of Downtown Disney

Tortilla Jo’s indulged us with Puffadilla’s, a delicious Jalapeño Slaw, freshly made Tableside Guacamole and Baja Ceviche. Also, icy cold lemonade and margaritas. Guacamole is a comfort food for us, so we loved this stop.

Ceviche at the Taste of Downtown Disney

Naples Ristorante e Pizzeria shared with us a Arancini; a fried saffron risotto ball stuffed with shrimp and vegetable ragout; it was outstanding. We chatted and laughed alongside others on the patio, beneath all of the twinkling lights while sipping a glass of red wine.

Twinkling Lights over Downtown Disney

We enjoyed how we were entertained throughout the night too. First, we were treated to a preview of the new Pete’s Dragon movie. An outdoor stage was the setting for entertainers who showed us traditional dances of the Pacific Islands; helping to promote the upcoming Ambassadors Luau. Later we had time to stroll thru the Wonderground Gallery.

The evening continued with us enjoying a Panzanella Salad alongside a Caprese Meatball Slider from La Brea Bakery.

ESPN Zone had a great sampling of beer, paired with a Short Rib that fell apart and Garlic Poutine. Are you hungry yet?

Cocktails at the taste of downtown disney

Catal Restaurant & Uva Bar ended our evening with a Paella and our favorite the Garlic Toast with Salted Ham. While they provided wines and other beverages, just watching them make the Catal’s Barrel Aged Old Fashion with a dark red cherry was mesmerizing. It’s was gorgeous.

The second floor of Catal has an outdoor patio a great place to take in Downtown Disney, enjoying the night air, chatting with each other while wrapping up an incredible evening! We loved the progressive evening and knowing that we were supporting a beautiful organization that helps save children’s lives.

Downtown Disney at night

Perhaps you’ll consider going to the Taste of Downtown Disney next year. It gives you the opportunity to learn about the restaurants and sample some of their specialty dishes or drinks. It makes for a fun summer night; plus you happen to be at the Happiest Place on Earth while helping to support a wonderful organization, CHOC!
