Teen Tips for Caring for Invisalign at School

Sponsored by Invisalign

The biggest question that my daughter had about Invisalign was, “How will I care for my Invisalign aligners while at school?” When having our consultation with Dr. Passamano in Irvine, he was able to provide my daughter with some great tips on how to care for her Invisalign aligners while at school.

The first thing we did when our daughter starting Invisalign treatment was stress the importance of good oral hygiene. Dr. Passamano provided her with a travel toothbrush, and we purchased her a small makeup bag to bring everything she needed. Inside of the makeup bag, we packed the case to hold her Invisalign aligners, a travel toothbrush and a small tube of toothpaste. Whenever my daughter is ready to eat at school, she puts her Invisalign aligners into the case, eats lunch, and then goes to the restroom to brush her teeth after lunch before reinserting her Invisalign aligners.

The second tip that my daughter learned never to do when at school is to put her Invisalign aligners into a napkin or her lunchbox. After accidentally throwing away a new set of Invisalign aligners, she learned the importance of always using the case to store them while she is eating.

My daughter quickly learned that she was embarrassed removing her Invisalign aligners in front of friends or at the lunch table. As a parent, I noticed that she was not eating her lunch for the first couple of days of treatment to avoid the embarrassment, and I was able to advise her to visit the restroom before lunch starts to remove her Invisalign aligners. It can be challenging for a teen to find time to visit the restroom before and after eating, but if your teen is worried about removing or inserting the Invisalign aligners in front of their friends, this is a great option.

With my teen being very independent with getting herself ready for school in the morning, I have set the alarm on her cell phone to go off every morning. The alarm goes off fifteen minutes before she leaves for school to remind her to insert her Invisalign aligners and to remember her makeup bag that contains everything that she needs to care for her Invisalign aligners while at school.

Invisalign treatment is perfect for busy teenagers like my daughter. Caring for Invisalign aligners is simple and will only take your teenager a couple of days to get into a routine.
