The Broad Art Museum in Los Angeles

The Broad

I love art, but I love sharing my love for art with my children even more. Whenever we have time to getaway to LA for the day, we usually end up at one of the local art museums with The Broad Museum being one of my all-time favorites.

Ever since The Broad opened in February of last year, families from all over the Southland have been eager to tickets. Tickets have been sold out for months, but I wasn’t going to let that stop us from getting a chance to experience it over winter break.

What many people don’t know is that they do have a standby line for guests who do not have an advanced ticket. Unfortunately, the line is often 2-3 hours long, which is not easy for parents with younger children to bear. Even with my kids reaching the pre-teen ages, I wasn’t sure how it was going to go, but gave it a try anyway, and we lucked out.

We arrived at the museum right when they were opening the standby line, and only had to wait about 45 minutes to get into the museum – lucky us! Then we were faced with the only downside of finding out that the magic mirror room (infinity room) was sold out of tickets for the day.

We spent almost the entire day in the museum. My kids couldn’t get enough of the art, and had to read every single description of every piece of artwork in the museum. My heart was melting as I watched them embrace the beauty of each piece of artwork.

Spending 4-5 hours in the museum came to our advantage. They were getting ready to close for the day, and we were making our way towards the exit when an employee tapped us on the shoulder to tell us that they could squeeze 1-2 more people into the infinity room before closing. We gasped with excitement, and my kids gave the employee the biggest hug.

The infinity room..the infinity room! It was everything and more than we hoped it would be. We were standing on a small platform that was surrounded by water while twinkling lights reflected in the mirrors that surrounded us. I wish that those 45 seconds could last forever.

Ticket to The Broad are FREE, but they are sold out for months. The infinity room tickets are also FREE, but they are first come first serve every morning. So, even if you have tickets, you want to be there at opening to get your mirror room tickets. If you wish to try standby like we did, then bring another adult to hold your place in line, and you can walk across the street from the museum to let the children play in the Disney Concert Hall gardens.
