We were recently invited to be a guest at The Harvest Restaurant in Laguna Beach. This gorgeous new gem has emerged in what we previously knew as Ben Brown’s at the Aliso Creek Inn and Golf Course. If you’re like us, you have very fond memories of visiting for dinner to celebrate special occasions with family throughout the years.

The Harvest Restaurant’s new design is progressive and open with inviting views of the golf course and canyon; while still preserving the nostalgia of the property. We found ourselves exploring the various spaces; both inside and outside on the deck, slowly relaxing and breathing in the scenery.

Our favorite surprise of the evening was Chef Charles Imbelli, who was recognized by Zagat as “30 under 30”. He invites you to embark on an adventure to experience his specially chosen menu each season. Combining flavors with carefully selected herbs, vegetables and fruits grown on-site from the half acre Harvest Garden. He is creative, incredibly kind and humble; and indulges us with an outstanding menu to taste the flavors at The Harvest.

To get our palate prepared on this night, we began with some fun and familiar small bites with a twist. Sampling a Harvest Burger Topped with Tomato Jam and Horseradish; mouthwatering and not to worry, this was on a smaller scale. It was followed by a Chicken Skewer with Roasted Lemon Marinade and Chimichurri. We loved the playfulness of the flavors in each.

A lovely selection of entrées tempted us; with dishes of Pan Seared Salmon with a Red Pepper Tzatziki that completely melts in our mouth. Lamb Meatballs in a Harissa Tomato Sauce was outstanding! We honestly wouldn’t have known these were meatballs of lamb; the flavors were delicate with the sauce and herbs complementing each other.

We wholeheartedly agree that we’ve discovered our new favorite craft cocktail and appropriately named, The Harvest Moon! A perfectly chilled glass with Gin, Lime Juice, St. Germaine, Cucumber, Rosemary, and Tonic. The sprig of Rosemary and Citrus create a little piece of art in a glass.

Now we find comfort in a delicious dessert and with these choices we found it challenging to decide so we let our sweet tooth be our guide. A Chocolate Mint Panna Cotta dotted with Espresso Whipped Cream, and Cocoa Nibs spoke to our inner child because most all of us love chocolate and mint. Delicious with just the right amount of sweet!

Next were the most amazing Apple Fritters? Yes! Imagine a Warm Apple Fritter sprinkled with Cinnamon Sugar, Orange Whip Cream and an Apple Cider Reduction. Heavenly and perfect in every way!

The Harvest Restaurant gives us the familiar with a progressive style; a menu that excites us and a spectacular renovation that preserves iconic features from the past. A place where conversation and laughter from generations past can once again be shared with families and friends, creating new memories.

We plan to visit for the holidays to share, enjoy good food and set a new tradition within our own circle of friends and family. We look forward to seeing some of your familiar faces there too!
